does anyone know an estimate for a top end rebuild for a ltz250?should I run it till it blows up or get it fixed first?

no more than 400

piston 100
top end gasket kit 30
valves 15 a piece
valve seals like 10 a piece

plus all of the machine work and if you can instal everything

Rebuild it before you have to split the case and dig piston chunks out of the bottom end. It will cost you MUCH more to do it after it grenades.

Indeed.

When your top end fails, it can often have catastophic consequenses on your lower end as well. From broken piston pieces in the crank and transmission (which usually means pulling the cases apart to flush it out properly), or binding up and breaking the connecting rod (which will also require splitting the cases, and adding an extra $250 to the bill for a new crank).


Rebuilding the top end is only about 1/3 the cost of rebuilding the bottom end. It isn't worth the risk.
