Smoking?

Ok before i opened the motor my quad was smoking blue smoke. I had a blown gasket so could that be the problem with the smoke? I just though i would ask because i have my valve cover, head and well the whole head off. I was planning to just change the gasket right under the valve cover gasket.. It was blown so bad.. but i order the gasket last week and im wondering if the gasket will fix my problem or could it also be my valves.. i mean i got it all apart if you guys want me to go check something out to tell you how good the part that could make it smoke be. Also when do i know when i need to change my valves?

how does the cylinder look? I had a blown gasket and it didnt make it smoke so I would say either rings or valve seals or both. To check your valves take the head to a machine shop and tell them you need the valves reseated. They will lap them and see if they are seating correctly and replace them if need be.
