Hey guys.
I have had this 2001 400ex for about 8 months and have done everything to maintain it that i knew of. I hadn't started it for 3 weeks and now it wont run. Before this i was riding it minimum of 4 times per week. The starter turns over but won't fire up. I know i'm getting spark. Could it be the carb and if so how do i clean it?
Thanks

maybe a gumed up carb. spray some carb cleaner in all the jets and then blow it out with air

how cold is it where you live? if its been sitting in the cold try putting a space heater by the cases and let it warm up a lil then try... also, it could by the carb or air filter... clean both
It may not be getting enough spark... Putting the battery on a charger may help.

Well, Idk, I have my bikes in a walk in trailer shed with no insulation. There has been snow in a set of rims in there for 3 weeks. I rode it when it was -10 out and it started fine. I would try a new plug and while its out spray some starter fluid in it.

Well i changed the spark plug and cleaned the carb and now it starts right up. The only problem is that immediately it gets extremely hot. If the choke is open at all it sounds like the motor is going to go through the roof, its revving really fast. I'm glad it starts but now i hope this is something you guys can help me out with.

Did you try adjusting the idling screw down? Also time of year has to do with it.
