ok iv read the sticky thread and it didnt help me... now what i want in shocks is handleing to be some what the same like the stocks but to not bottom out as easy... i was planning on buying the yfz450 shocks cuz there cheaper then the 450r shocks... so my question is will they bottom out as much as stocks or 450r shocks better? but i cant afford them:(

I'm never a fan of mixing different companies parts. I would go with 450r shocks only because i think they are much more similar to the 400ex shocks than the YFZ.

The yfz shocks don't mount up as easy as the 450r's but I think they are better but anything is better than stock 400ex shocks.

but from what iv gathered do the YFz 450 shocks make the front of the 400ex lower or the same heighth? and yea its the same work to mount it up... and im fine with mixing and maching but i just wanna make sure it wont lower my front end and will make it so i dont bottom out as easy. sooo??? thanks guys!

my guess would be that they will lower the front end a little bit because they are set up softer. i have seen people on here do this mod and they said it was great.

i don't think you will have any problems with botteming out. the stock 400ex shocks have virtually no adjustabillity what so ever. the yfz shocks are fully adjustable and you can adjust your compression according to how you ride.

so should i just keep em stock?

NOT IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO GET A SET OF ADJUSTABLE SHOCKS. I THINK THAT IS THE FIRST BIG MONEY UP GRADE THAT SHOULD BE MADE TO A EX.

I have yfz 450 shocks on my quad and I love them...if you are worried about bottoming out you can give the springs more preload by tightening the nuts on the shaft at the top...they will lower your front at least an in or so which makes them great for keeping the front end down up hills....like I said...I love em.

there is a great deal of milling that has to be done to get them to fit though...

i did the yfz shocks and it wasn't hard at all. i just used a hack saw and cut them down a bit on the top mount and thats it. yfz shocks are better for jumps then trails and 450r shocks are better for trails then jumps (from what i have herd) i never used the yfz shocks before i sold them to eviltanker but he said he never bottoms out and he said they were a huge improvment over stock.

What I dont know about is how stiff the 450R shocks are. I was thinking about 450R but people sid they where very very still and I'd need to get them revaled and resprung. With the YFZ shocks.. I'd wish someone made a how to like they did about the 450R. I want to see how much oyu have ot grind down. And I was at Andew's Yamaha (Honda-Yamaha-Suzuki-Kawisaki they sell everything) and there was a YFZ next to the 400EX and I couldn't help but to get down on my knees and compare and I saw that the Yfz say a good inch lower. But now I cant help to think.. was that a 450R?

I took my yfz shocks to where my brother works and he milled them down professionally...you have to take off at least a half of an inch if i remember correctly but I never have had any problems with them being weak...for trails they are great too and for hillclimbs...they are even better...i have rode my buddies 400 with 450r shocks and it was rough...the yfzs are smooth as heck and cheaper...but its all up to you.
