I bought a new 07 ex in december and have enjoyed riding at least every weekend i like the performance of the z and and i am thinking that i want to switch to z, but there are 2 reasons holding me back

1) Maintenance- how much more is it and has anybody experienced maintenance issues from VERY aggressive trail riding and occasional track time (non-organized racing)

2) Gearing- Everything i have read says that z's like to be revved i have no experience with them but i ride ALOT of trails and dont need to be constantly clutching and will going down a tooth (to 13) on the front sprocket fill this and will this cause any other problems Basicly is it geared to high for trails often very technical

3)Money i bought my ex for 3999 out the door brand new and dont want to pay much more than that for a z the most i would pay is 4500-5000 and i want to buy new; i could possibly buy used but i know the type of abuse these go through and would rather know it has been taken care of. Do any of you have any suggestions on this?

I appreciate you guys opinions on this any help is appreciated.

I'd say just stick to your EX man. especially if you just bought it brand new you wont be able to get nearly as much of your money back as youd like even though it is brand new. don't get me wrong i love my KFX and would choose one over a EX anyday. i like the KFX/Z better because it handles a little better and i just feel more comftorable on it. but if you just bought a EX it would be more of a hassle to sell that bike and buy another one then it's worth IMO. but it all comes down to you.

alright thank you

have you beaten on your z/kfx/dvx and how is the reliability if properly maitained but ridden to hell and back

i guess what it really comes down to is the z is better performance while the ex is better build quality

in my opinion
u guys tell me what u think this is why i posted in z forum as well as in ex forum so far ex has responded not much from this forum though

Mateinence wise the 400ex and Z are the same. Only extra thing to check on is Coolant.

The reason I sold my ex for one is the ergonomics. I love how the Z feels and handles.

Main things to do on a Z is pro design airbox adapter. and evetually a DID cam chain and possible vavles. Those are the biggest weak spots.

But if you like you ex I would just keep it. Unless you are a night and day ride on a Z. I am so I made the switch

I replied to your other post. You can read my comments there. The build quality of a Z is just as good as the EX. I don't care what anybody says.

i bought mine in 05 but it was an 04 leftover. in ohio. alot of dealers will cut you a good deal on last years model. IF you can find one....

yeah that is how i picked up my 07ex for so cheap No one believes me but i picked it up or 3999 out the door
so i think I will use the 2 grand I saved or maybe 800 lol to just put some mods on it and save the pain of selling even though i like the way z's look better
