I have a stock 2000 400ex I was wondering what will give me the most power for the buck. 416 or 426? What cam to run? Do I have the head ported and polished? Etc I am willing to spend about 1200 to 1500. The two guys I ride with one has a Z400 pipe jet filter and the other has a stock 450r but he is about to put pipe jet filter. I would like to compete with them cause now I have no chance. Any suggestions will be helpful.

you will be faster with suspension mods...do them first then work on power mods...

We drag race on flat sand. Suspension upgrades will help a lot with that type of racing?

id say go 426 11:1, hotcams stage 2, 450R carb, porting it would help alot, some sort of exhaust if you can afford it. my old 400 outran Z400's with just a stage 1 cam, Sparks X-6 exhaust, and rev box. it also took 2nd at the fair in the 400 class with those mods.

why are you using a 400ex for flat sand drag racing. I would get something else for drag racing. The 450s will smoke you all day even if you put a stroker in it you will beat the stock ones but thats it. By the time you put all kinds of money in your 400 to get it close to them you will wish you just got a 450 if drag racing is all you do
