Sparks425Ex
11-17-2002, 03:28 PM
No he didn;t get it powder coated. It was already Pced and the reason there are spots missing is because he has been riding on that frame with the pc since last year(I think) and metal rubs on metal and rubs off the Pc.

Norm: Do you you have any details as to what you are doing this winter?

11-17-2002, 03:44 PM
haha thats exactly what my 300ex looks like right now. Its kinda depressing when all ym friends whent for a ride toady in the snow that we got and i had to say i couldnt go cause my wheeler is apart off well should look good when im done. What color are you doing? IM going a high gloss black frame. Red uper a arms and black lower a arms. And undecided on what to do my swing arm red or black? Whats ur oppinion?

Your just gonna have to wait and see the final product!

I am thinking it isn't gonna be a YZ or a CRF. That is just a B!itch. I think he is pcing his frame a diff color. getting all new plastic and some cool stuff then maybe getting a bigger engine. Maybe a long travel front end.

400exBro
11-18-2002, 07:20 PM
that is what i am thinking, CRF time---- he says he gots money so why sell him self short ...
but the only problem, if you got money, why not buy a arens or houser frame and toattly make it worth it....

i am drooling just thinking about it....
i am scared to race against you now:eek:

Who did your Gussets? They look very nice. How much would those run to have done? I think the Frame color is very cool, but I would of gone with Red plastic like your buddy had on his 250r and it would kind of be like Borich's. It will be very different though.

400exRacerX
01-01-2003, 08:52 PM
00-Buck ATV racing did the gussets. That would run a normal customer around $500.

01-01-2003, 08:54 PM
you should of done the a arms and swingarm red at least......too much yellow!

Dave400ex
01-01-2003, 08:59 PM
Does that $500 include Sand Blasting and then Powdercoating the Frame after the Gussets are done?

01-01-2003, 09:05 PM
what true purpose do the gussets under the engine do. they look to me like they'd be more or a oil/greese/mud trap. i can't see how they provide any structual stability.

I think it helps when the lateral (side to side) flex happens..

01-01-2003, 09:12 PM
i doubt there is any problem with this area. i myself have never seen any cracks in this area. Over gusseting and making the frame more ridgid will produce more cracks and stress on the frame. flexing is actually good.

trx400ex
01-01-2003, 09:37 PM
alot of pro welded frame have those, mine are almost just like his except there is a large hole drilled to let mud and water out, i belieive they are for the twisting action that the engine puts on the frame to stop stress cracks from developing, but i dont kow fo sho

400exRacerX
01-01-2003, 09:47 PM
Ok first off it would be $500 for the gusseting and then another $280 for sandblasting and powdercoating. And my frame was welded by a professional GNC racer that is a machinest for a living. All the gussets on my frame were completely nessecary and I dont need a lexture on how frames need to flex. Obviously a frame needs to flex or it will crack, thats just common sense buddy, which it looks like it took awhile for you to gain. If you have nothing positive to say then just STFU.

The gussets on the bottom of the frame are for side to side flex and for the twist that the motor puts on the frame. A motor has a natural tendency to twist when power is put to it.

500 bucks for gusseting is ridicoulous. I work in a fabercating shop so i know. Those gussets were proably made out of scrap metal anyway. And dont try to tell me it takes forever to weld them in. Once you figure out what your doing you can gusset a frame pretty fast.

The pivot gussets took the longest and the most time. And the headstay mounts were heli-arc welded.

I payed $200 for the gussets and $280 for the p/c because I am sponsored by him. He charges that much because he doesnt want high flow business hes got 3 of his race bikes to work on this winter anyways.

BTW if any of you that hate to work with the swingarm pivot bearings like myself and want a short, simple, and inexpensive way to fix your aggrevation 00-buck atv racing makes urethane bushings to take the bearings place.

I did sum thinking, y in the world would a CrF need a battery. It has not electric start, lights or anything. I think he's playing this out, its a 400ex motor with who knows what done to it. Besides i hope if he did put a CrF into he'd just spend the $$ and buy a new frame made for one!

LMFAO!!! Damn, I thought I gave it away with the battery and part of the motor showing (cam tensioner). But I guess some of you guys don't know the 400ex too well.

Although its not a crf motor, (lol) I'm still laughing I pulled your legs soooooo bad!! LOL. But anyways its a 416, 13:1 compression, powroll 4mm stroker, complete hinson clutch, sparks heavy duty cam chain, sparks aggressive cam, sparks port & flow, with 3 angle valve job, sparks heavy duty valve springs and titanium retainers, all topped off with a fcr39mm carb.:D

Damn close enough to a crf!
