Hey guys, im buying an 04 YFZ next week. And need to know of any issues that are common amongst the 04's. I.E. Valve train, crank bearings, anything will help so i know what to watch out for. The bike will be raced within a couple days of purchase and never dealt with YFZ's before. Like I said any info on these would be great. Thanks

Yea it kind of sucks when you dont get replys. I would say the one thing to look out for is the oil decompression plug which should be aftermarket. Also the oil that lubricates the wrist pin isnt proporly oiled all the time and theres a kit on ebay you can buy for $200 bucks. Also maybe put a fresh top end on it if it isnt done already. Thats what I know for sure. It should run fine and I havnt heard anything about crank bearings so you should be fine. Hope this helps.

First thing I can tell you to do is have the 07 side case put on or have the oil mod done..after blowing 3..04 motors its worth the money.Thats about the only common problem with the 04 model that I know of.Good luck with it!

Yea they do except the oil plug. Make sure you do that oil mod though.

hey thanks for all the info guys, the oil mod has already been done as well as the whole motor. Its got a completely fresh mx build. so the gaskets and oil mods are the major problems. And no I still have my 450R. I am buying this quad for my brother because he is way too big for the LTZ400 i got him. and he fits perfect on my 450r. I would sell it if i could get 12,000.00 for it but nobody will pay that so im just gonna keep it, thats the only thing that sucks about putting money into bikes is you dont get it back regardless. I think im going to buy the new 09 450R when it comes out and make my 05 a practice bike. But im not really a hater of the YFZ or the TRX or anything. I just like a bike that runs and runs nice. Im not huge on Yamaha the brand due to half the things yamaha i have owned were back in the shop 10 min after id ride them, but this is a fourstroke so i should be good. Once again thanks for the advice guys.
