My z was cutting out second gear and when it was hot or wet it would cut out in any gear. sounded like the limiter was hit at a low rpm. took it to my local shop and they said the z's have a history of the rev limiters sticking? said they could take it off and it wouldnt hurt anything besides reverse going crazy fast..are they lying to me? or is that a fact?

they dont know what their talkin bout, if you remove the cdi the bike will run like crap or possibly not at all, if i were you i just buy an after market cdi anyway there twice as good.

well the guy that told me this had done it before on his 500cc 400ex. lol. but i was planning on getting a dyna anyways, but i need something to ride til I get 200 dollars for one. surely it doesnt run too bad without it.

Never tried to run one with out the CDI but as said above. I doubt it will run. The box adjusts ur timing and other things.

when my cdi quit working, it ran, but no very well, it cut out and barley ran, the cdi isnt just a rev limiter its your ignniton timing without it it dosent know when to spark.

sounds about like what mine was doing, when in reverse, I could barely let the clutch out before the limiter would kick in.

your right, they do have a very low rev limiter in rev. im not sure why. probally saftey issues.

I would make sure you don't have a jet plugged before you decide it is the cdi. that would make it run lean and act as you described. The cdi runs your ignition and I doubt if it would even run without it.

the reverse switch was grounding out in the tranny.. causing it to cut out..
not the CDI :) 75 dollars in labor later lol
