I need to replace my rear bearings, but for some reason I can't get the sleeve between the 2 bearings in the bearing carrier to move down so I can tap out the old bearings. It shows exactly how to do it in the clymer manual. I've tried to pry it down on one end but don't want to pry too hard and screw up the carrier. I've also tried to tap it down on one end but it won't move. It seems like it shouldn't be too difficult. Do I just need to beat on it or pry harder? Anyone else ever had this problem?

that sleeve can be a pain in the a** sometimes. try putting some heat to the carrier around the bearings and that should make it easier to get the bearings out.

take a propane torch and heat up only the carrier. dont heat the bearing at all. once it gets good and hot, take and smack the flat end of the carrier on a board. the bearing should move, freeing up the sleeve.
