I just ordered a 90cc and Im going to do the same thing does this sound like a good ideal??? 90cc is A/C with L/C kit doesnt come till mon or tues so I havent seen it yet . we run 2 local series and everyone went and bought apex 90s and Im tring to keep up.

Things that come to mind are:

1. Suspension, You can add all the HP in the world but if you don't have a suspension or rider to compliment it you are wasting money. Suspension should be your first mod.

2. Carb/Air filter changes , Need to feed the motor mods.

3. Exhaust, More air/fuel in... need to get more exhaust out.

4. Frame Mods. More HP means more stress, extra bracing may be required.

5. Wheels. Factory steel wheels are heavy, aftermarket alum are lighter and look better.

Please keep in mind more HP alone doesn't make for faster lap times. It is a combination of rider talent, handeling and HP.

Who is doing your port work?

Working on these 50s many times leads to a slower than stock quad.

There are very few that can make them faster than when they started

Please careful in the selection for this job.

aimo007, there's a couple places in Michigan you can likely find those parts. Lakes motorsports in waterford and Tricks by Hicks in Dewitt.

Based on my 50 experiences clutching, porting and head work is the only thing to do. Everything else we have tried lost power.

For the clutch kit I'd ask a lot of questions. Just using different clutch parts will not work well, make sure they do machine work to the variator.

As for the porting I've yet to see anyones port work run except my own. There's lot of detail work needed in those cylinders and its very tiny. Porting and head work will make a huge improvement, but the clutch must be done first. e-mail or pm me if you're interested.

Not to make anyone mad !!!

EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER WORKED ON A MINI THAT IS IN THE BUSINESS WILL SAY THEIR THE BEST.

Do yourself a favor and get quotes price the work and ask questions, I'm not to mechanical but from just talking and asking questions from some of the best I know alot.

Make sure you ask if there is anything else they would recommend doing ..IE something someone else put on a quote then ask why or why not ... If its not legal dont let them do it . If they do something even with your knowledge but dont tell you it may be illegal then you can hold them responsible if there's a protest...

Builder's need to be just as responsible as the parents when it comes down to it... Who's cheating WHo??? enough is enough !! Now you decide after all is compiled what you would like done and by whom>>>

Kind of a Broad statement:
I will say this right now. I don't like building 50's. I do know how to build 50's. I have built 50's and up.
I certainly know how to port a cylinder.
But I don't ever recall saying I'm the best!

I do have a question for the 4 to 6 stock class. Is there any internal mods like porting, and such for that class as long as it happens to the stock cylinder?

yes, you can do what you want to the inside of the motor as far as porting, high compression head, and i beleive changing the crank is allowed as long as it does not change the displacement.
and they do not allow after market cylinders.. You can re-jet the carb but you can't change the airfilter.. Hope this helps

Thanks Jim Grace,

See, that has been the way the rules are all along. So you can still abide by the rules and make a stock one faster by the rules than a stock one not touched by the rules.
been there done that.

I think this year they will allow you to run a aftermarket
air filter in the stock limited class.

I've been down that road in Michigan before... There are some other builders/suppliers out there that just tell it like it is. They don't repackage stock parts and call them "modified". They don't remove packaging or stickers from performance parts and call them "their" performance parts. They tell you openingly "whose" parts really are better. They truely share a passion for the sport, not just for the almighty dollar. They are willing to share their knowledge and lend an honest helping hand even to those that can afford the works of art they create on the porting bench. I know they give out "last years" advice for free, but it's always tested and honest advise. They come to the forums to help the sport and offer services to those that can afford it. Not to brag or talk credentials. That is why I am proud to place their decals on our miniquads, and why those other decals are no longer there. Dan.

A guy asks where to buy parts, get some work done and I offered to help out and suggested who some local shops were.

Dan, why don't you share with us all where to get "advice for free" information on our mini quads? Where do you do go to get tested and honest advice???

I am glad you got the answers you wanted seems your research was done quickly.... Billy and Gary I know from the board and have talked to on the phone and would have recommended as well,,, there our others of course. Locally I used to use a builder but got ripped then I moved or upgraded to Hetrick I have looked around and found good and bad . I recommend very few so Billy and Gary you guys cant let me down... There's names that are even hush hush in the industry and I'll never tell...

Oh and Billy you read to much into people's posts....Your right it was a broad statement.... I should have politically correctly stated that MOST PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE BUSINESS HAVE REASON'S THAT THEY BELIEVE THEIR PRODUCT AND OR SERVICE IS BETTER! LOL>>> BETTER THATS TOO FUNNY...

Mike @ Lakes has helped me out pretty well I must add, helped me LEGALLY double the speed of our Pred 50 (I know not saying much) but he spent ALOT of time on the phone w/ me and priced us VERY well especially being racers....just my $.02.
I plan to use someone on this site for our DRX but its Lakes all the way for my daughters quad which will just be a practice bike this year, anyways. Good Luck!

I really didn't mean to sound like he was talking about me, I just try and never say I'm the best.
Now maybe some thing like ...I may not be the best, but, I'm the best I've ever seen. Or I'm not as dumb as I look , or
There are three kinds of people in the world, those who are really good at mathmatics, and the rest of ya'll .:) :D :D
Just old junky stuff like that.
