400ex lighting and electric start problem! PLEASE HELP

OK, MY BIKE IS A 2003 400EX BOUGHT NEW IN 2007. WHAT IS THE ELECTRIC START PROBLEM? I WILL PUSH ON THE BUTTON AND ONLY HEAR A CLICK FROM THE STARTER MOTOR. THE LIGHTING PROBLEM, WHEN JUMP STARTED NEUTRAL LIGHT WORKS WITH HEAD LIGHTS TURNED OFF. HIGH BEAMS WORK BUT ARE DULL TILL GIVING GAS AND NEUTRAL WORKS. LOW BEAMS NOTHING AND NO NEUTRAL.

Check terminal connections at battery and clean if dirty. If terminals are clean and the starting problem still exists replace the battery.

if someone got a pic of the battery hookup it would help alot

you have a short in your headlight circuit, look at the wires for the headlight and see if you can find a break in them anywhere. thats is why your having starting probles because the short is running your battery dead.

I had a short in mine.. the wires that ran in the metal housing of the headlight assembly were bare against the metel. THe vibration from riding musta wore the insulation off, anyways just wrap tape around them... or get a straw, cut in half, slide across the wires and then tape.. either way will stop it from shorting out... good luck.. also the click click click thing sounds like you need a new battery.
