i light of the thread about home audio systems, i got to thinking about great surround sound movies. you know, the ones that make you get up and look outside, or go see who's up walking around..

strangely, IMO some of the best current home audio experiences are animated movies..(perhaps because they can manually generate and place the effect)

so the question..

what are 2 of the absolute best "surround" effect movies youve heard?(the ones that really stand out)

for myself:
blade runner
titan AE

i know, its hard to choose just 2.. but it keeps 1 person from listing their entire library.

We were Soldiers is great.

300 is awesome too.

Pretty much any saw movies.

and the best surround sound experience as of yet, was deffinately supercross: the movie.

Aside from them fxcking up the sound effects.:ermm:

Saving Private Ryan

My all time favorite movie and even though our TV is a piece, we have a killer adio setup and that movie is crazy on it

Most movies only support a 5.1 surround so you cant really get a true surround that the 7.1 can make. That really old nascar movie with tom cruise, I thinks its days of thunder has insane surround. Also in reign of fire, the part where the whole army goes to London has some pretty cool surround.

LOL @ BladeRunner & 12 Monkeys those movies are great. I'll agree with Saving Private Ryan, when they are walking through fields n' stuff you can hear faint bullet sounds hissing past them, or rain drops in the background, it's very well done. When you have nice speakers you realize you've been missing whole frequency ranges and you're like I didn't know that sound was even there! War of the worlds has some deep freq. stuff that'll shake a house to bits.

best movie ive ever heard on a "good" surround sound system is Top Gun. You cant beat the part when the planes are taking off

I find anything encoded as DTS is usually a great soundtrack.

DTS > Dolby

nobody's mentioned them so ill chime in again..
Jurrasic Park and the most recent King Kong..

both have distinct noises from all around that arent heard on 2-channel tv's or stereo's.

On some older movies....

Face/Off sounds really good in multiple parts
the showdown in the church, the boat scene, the beginning on the runway

Independence Day sounds pretty good too
