400ex carb diff.

anybody know the difference between 99-04 & 05-07 carbs? 99-04 carb is $250 thru honda & 05-07 is $130. stumbled upon this looking for a carb for my "00".

I know 2 difference right off the bat. The 2005 and Newer carbs have the non adjustable needle and unfriendly "D" shaped fuel screw. There might be other changes but, that's all I know of.

you hit the nail on the head.

Its a pain in the xxx to jet them. You needa buy an older needle to go along with the jets.
Or you can use the washer method, but i wanna do it right.

Speaking of jetting, i should do mine soon.:ermm:

Well up untill 04 the carbs were 35.5 then they turned to 38 I think.

That's according to the spec sheets.

I have yet to hear 100% confirmation there really is a size difference.

The explanation I belive to be true is the 400ex carb has oval bore the the 35.5mm measurment is an average of the two demensions and the 38mm measurement is the larger of the two demensions.

I just think there both 38mm.
