Is it bad to use on my 400 or not. I get such mixed responses. Some swear by it while others say it will eat the clutches. What do you guys think and what oil do you use.

I used it in my 400 ever since I got it 2 years ago and in my old 300ex back in like '98 with no problems...
Make sure you dont get any with moly and make sure its safe for wet clutches and you should be fine..;)

i agree with the last guy, make sure its safe for wet clutches and you should be fine. Some will make the clutch slip if you get the wrong one. I prefer just to use good old honda oil. It was used from the factory and it will be used in mine until either my parts guy quites selling it to me for so cheap or i am convinced other wise.

i use castrol actevo 20w-50. its a full-sythetic specially formulated for 4-stroke motorcycle engines. i ran honda oil for break in then i switched to the castrol and believe it or not i notice a much smoother power application.

As long as the oil has no Molybdenum (moly) additives in it and its a 4-stroke oil, you will be fine!! I checked with our oil dealer at the shop where i work, he got me all the info i needed on the additives. So now i run fully synthetic Northland oil in my quad, cuz it was free to me being the shop foreman, have now for almost two years without any signs of problems.
If you look at the back of a quart of oil, there will be a little sae stamp on there that will tell you if there is moly in the oil..
