I have a '04 450r and when I bout it used found it was getting hard to start. Took the valve cover off to check clearance and absolutely no clearance on one of the intake valves on the left side. So as a precaution went ahead and put new valves, port and polished head (for fun until the valves got here), and also replaced valve seals. Got it all back together tonight, checked the timing to make sure it was good, and measure clearance and still none. Now I have one on the exhaust valve (right) with no clearance. What do I need to do. Before, I tried changing the shim assuming it was 0 clearance and stil and no clearance. ANy suggestions????? Thanks

Try to adjust it again using a smaller shim. Did you re-cut the seats before installing the new valves?

start with the smallest shim and see what you get. Do you have the Hot Cams shim kit? the only other thing i can think is the head itself is damage but HIGHLY doubtful. Sounds like the valve just need adjusted.

You need to adjust the clearances, you cant just throw in new valves and expect the old shims to work still, the new valves need to be shimmed accordingly. Even from the factory most valves use different shims, dont expect them all to be the same.

what is the easiest way to find what shims I need without a kit. I was thinking just take the shims completely out and mesure with a feeler guage and substract the .006 or .011. Sound good or no? Thanks again

When you have zero clearance I don't think there is a way without trial and error.

You will have to get a kit or borrow someones, usually you replace ones with others so it all works out, deffinitely trial and eeror, use a magnet to remove and install them to keep them from falling in the motor.
