i own a 450r 2005 kickstart it has a rs3 off road yoshimura , K&N air filter and jetting is running with the air lid i mostly go mudding and open area like "RINKER" witch i can open my bike up really good. so i was wondering if u people can do me the favor and give me the best sprocket sizes.

- best top end sprocket sizes.
-best accelereation sizes.
-and best mid size.

What would u put in ur 450r?

well for best acceleration which would be an MX setup would be just to drop the front sprocket to a 12-13 tooth. best top speed would be to go to like a 42 or so on the rear with the stock front sprocket. and mid size your best of staying with the stock 15/38.

having stock front and a 42 rear is nearly the same as a 13 front and stock rear. For top speed you want a larger front sprocket and/or a smaller rear.

For the most all around well rounded package, I prefer stock gearing with 18" tires. I think this offers good acceleration and decent top speed. If you are wanting more speed or more acceleration, I'd just buy different front sprockets as they are cheapest, and only a one tooth change will most likely allow you to still use the same length chain.

Well a general rule of thumb is dropping one tooth on the countershaft is the same as adding 3 in the rear. So a 12/36 will give you a crapload of bottom-end but not too much on top.

Depending on what year R you have, stock may be pretty good for all-around riding. '04-05 R's come stock with 14/38 gears while '06-08 R's come with 13/38 gears.

If you want more top end then you currently have with stock gearing you could go with.

15:38
or
14:36

Both would be about the same in the end, giving you more top speed, and less acceleration.
I'd recommend 14:36 over 15:38 as a 15tooth in the front can cause some space issues with some case savers.

If you want more low end then you currently have with stock gearing then you could just drop the front sprocket down to a 13tooth and leave the rear sprocket at 38teeth.

Most people don't recommend the use of a 12tooth sprocket at all on these bikes because it puts a lot of stress on the chain with such a small contact area to the chain.
Though theres a few companies that makes them and a few people that use them :P

im thinking in the 14/36 i really dont wanna loose all my acceleration i would still have some acceleration and gain lots of top end with it right? and around how much speed does that 14/36 give it.

You would be slightly slower top speed wise than stock and pick up a little acceleration... You cant have top speed and acceleration, you need to pick which one suits you more, or do a happy medium and stay stock. Honda probably put a heck of a lot of time into calculating gear ratios and seeing what worked good on this machine...

and 1 last question what would be the perfect size to get "some"top end and get "some acceleration"?

none, like said above you get 1 or the other.
If u gain top end, u loose acceleration. If u loose top end you gain acceleration.
Theres no exceptions to that with gearing.
Gearing can't give you more power, it can only redistribute it.

If you want to gain both at the same time, do engine mods.

No that would be pure top end gearing.
Do they even make 16t front sprockets for these bikes? lol
Thats a really weird combo anyway.

If u want all around gearing, just leave it stock.

yeah they make up to 17 on the front i believe. I have a 16 but dont use it, but i have it just in case i do a xc. But im really angered....freaking my shop guy said stock was 15/38....but now i know its 14/38. So D3 is a 13 front and 38 rear good for MX. or should i change it back to 14/38? I understand gearing i just always screw it up explaining it. I want to leave the rear sprocket at 38 cause its too much a pain in the a** to change that. And im going to be getting the maxxis m932 18" rears. so with the 18s what should i do front sprocket. 13 or 14. I was wondering why i couldnt get enough umph to clear a 60ft table top. now i know and knowing is half the battle......

For MX with 18" tires I prefer stock gearing.
Seems to have a good balance for the tracks I ride.

If your on the track with 20" rear's 13/38 might be a good choice.

All depends on how open the track is tho, and if its hardpack or loomy/muddy.

This one track around here thats pretty much setup for dirt bikes is so tight, with awkward jumps and steep lips and landings I'm stuck in 2nd and the bottom end of 3rd most of the day.

Another track I'm 3rd/4th pinned flowing all day.

yeah thats pretty much the track im on now. with the 20's and a 15 front couldnt get out of second the whole track. so im gonna go practice up there thursday with the 20" tires and the 13 front and see if i like it. unless my 18"s come in before then, i will leave it at 13 if they come in before and if needed changed ill just chnage it to the 14 at the track. thanks for your input D3.
