I have a 2005 400ex and I somehow stripped out the threads in the head where the spark plug goes in. My spark plug will just spin. Any suggestions?

Thanks

new head is my best guess
by the way spark plugs only need to be a little tight

no need to wrench them down. time for a new head.

You can Helicoil it.. not exactly sure on how it's done but ask at your local autoshop, they'll have the answer. No need for a whole new head because of a couple stripped threads lol.

Try helicoil and if that doesn't work your might have to look into a new head :ermm:

i think your not pushing hard enough, my spark plug used to spin for so long and it wouldnt tighten but that was only because i wasnt pushing hard enough. I'm pretty sure your threads arent stripped just that you dont have the plug lined up in the hole.

That is usually how it does it. If you cross thread it going in, the threads on the bolt (or in this case the spark plug) actually cut the threads in the nut(your head) on the way out. I'm not sure if I'd trust a heli-coil, but its worth a shot I guess before you drop the coin on a new head

Ive had good luck w/ helicoils. They actually use timeserts as a permanent fix to caddy's northstar motor. The head studs pull just like the 440ex have a tendency to do.

the helicoil kit isnt cheap but if you know someone that has the kit you could just buy the inserts and save some $$

ive helicoiled the longer head bolt and its holdin up real good. id say to try that first. its only about 7 dollars for the kit
