ive never taken my engine fully apart or had to split the cases but im getting to that point so what if any are some tip or tricks you guys have to split the cases the easiest? thanks

Buy a manual. I just did it with the manual and it was a piece of cake.

i recommend the use of a sledge hammer. but be gentle with it...




jk, yeah the manual is great to have. check out ebay. i found one on disk for about 5 bucks. and i bought it. and its all there, just print the section you need, and go get dirty.

I hate to sound obvious, but a case splitter is the best way. You risk damaging your crank without one. Buy a crank puller (the opposite of a case splitter) and a flywheel puller if you don't already have one. You can mess up your rod bearing clearances if you don't use one. You can buy all three tools for less money than the crank is going to cost you after you damage it. Rockymountainatv.com carries the tools as do most reputable shops. I know that is a lot of cash to spend all at once, but you will be glad you did in the end.
