If you were going to get the bigest single quad what brand would you get? same with the twins. I'm not brand loyal, just want to get a good quad that will take some abuse. We live in the mt. hood area in oregon and get lots of snow! Even with our 500 it takes a lot of power to plow through a foot and a half of snow. Were going to sell one and get a bigger one. What would you get?

Rincon, or the Suzuki King Quad.

I like the honda but it doesn't have high range low range which is important for a utility quad. I've heard good things about the king quad.
So what do you all like, a big single or twin?

I know, people keep telling m that. But at 12,000 its a little spendy. Maybe in a couple years.
What about the polaris 800 twin?

IF you are lookin for plowing, pullin, and muddin machine polaris is the way to go. what are you exactly lookin for?

I would never have another polaris, we've had three and they have gotten worse with each new one. Same old story of goin through drive belts and leaks everywhere. Stick with a Honda for reliability and power.

Exactly that! I have a 05 and 06 polaris now and have no problems at all. No leaks no drive belt problems, Maybe I don't have enough miles but so far so good.
jrodfox, while I agree the Honda is an excellent motor... but a good ute quad? I'm new here and don't know everything about these quads yet but don't the Honda's only have high range? and a straight axle? I'm not sure if those factors would be good for snow plowing and pulling a small trailer and such.

I have never used one in the snow, so I cant say for sure. But I would have to say that a honda should have plenty of bottom end power. We use our fourwheelers for working cattle and riding river bottoms mostly, after a year or so of good use the polaris's just dont hold up anymore... Im sure some would disagree, but that has been my experiences with polaris.
Thundercat 1000 is a beast

The Yamaha Grizzly 700 is one bad motha..........
As you can see from my signature I'm a honda guy and even I wouldn't get a Honda ute if I wanted a "big" one. I think they're fine for mid sized machines.

i know a little about the snows in oregon and washington. my dad has a polaris 800. he came from a brute force 750. night and day difference. the brute had alot of power but it really wandered under power. the polaris 800 is a beast in the snow and mud. and it is like riding a big couch. you get on a 800 polaris and you think this thing can't be stuck it's that powerful, but that can be a good and bad thing. when we go riding he can keep up with me on a gravel road until i hit 3rd or 4th gear. go with a polaris they very reliable and endustuctable

I Have a 2001 Sportsman 500 rolled twice, $2400 in damage, fix it (twice) and i had never had a problem with the machine at all its a great quad, i use it mostly for plowin and pullin trailers. Beautiful machine!

No worry's pods-bmoc;) The sport Honda's are great, but for the ute.. don't think so.
I'm leaning towards the 800 polaris. If I could afford it I would get the thundercat. Maybe in a couple years.
thanks for all the help.:)

My top 3 choices are:
Yamaha Grizzly 700
pros:
EFI
Power-steering
Dependability
Drive. 2WD/4WD/Differential Lock
Towing
cons:
Slugish compared to other 700-800 4x4's
Price
Can-am Outlander 800
pros:
POWER!
Mudding
V-Twin Rotax
General Utility
cons:
Weak frames
Expensive parts
AC Thundercat
pros:
HUGE POWER!!!
cons:
No diff lock
Sometimes over-powering in certain situations.
price
All 4x4's have pro's and con's.
I personally would STAY AWAY from Polaris. We've owned a couple in the past and will NEVER AGAIN. We found belts always slipping. Plus on the 800, they are so heavy they heat up belts quick when mudding. Things always break off.

Don't most quads except the honda's have belt drive clutches?
And couldn't you get a bomb proof clutch kit?
One other thing.
When you talk about the pro's on some of these quads you menton 2WD/4WD/Differential Lock. polaris dosn't have differential lock. When it go's into 4wd all 4 wheels are locked and ready to roll, no slip.
Tell me why this isn't better?

Differently lock is not the best for pulling cause it will dig a but-load of holes and not get any traction, while Polaris's 4wd puts the traction where it needs to be placed ( under the wheel with the most) and getting you out of ruts and holes easily.
