hey i got a question i went ridin today and my 250x just starts boggin out and now it doesent even start like it almost starts sometimes do you thuink it could be a piston how would i know if i need a piston? also if it helps i went ridin a few days ago and my quad started runnin ****ty so i pulled the carb apart and then i founf out that the screws that hold the slide to the arm came out so i put it back out and went riding now this happened?

1st question: is it firing?
2nd question: have you taken the carb apart again to see if it is messed up again?
3rd question: is it easier to kick over than normal?
4th question: was the engine making any abnormal nosies than usual?

after you answer these questions you will either have found the problem or we can give you some better ideas. if i had to guess your carb is screwed again

i havent takin it apart again but i looked through the boot and saw that the slide is moving up and down so that eliminates that

also i belive it is firing becasu it sounds like its about to start sometimes

it was making some ogging noises then just died out

and also it does kind of seem to be a little bit eisiers to kick im not sure if it needs a piston tho casue it was running strng

Id do a compression test on it, check for spark, fuel etc all the basics first. Maybe some dirt got in the carb when you had it apart and clogged the jet???

well that tells me that your timing chain might have jumped, when i used to run one of those years ago the timing chain was notirious for streching and jumping. i would check your timing marks also. but its sort of hard to check the compression acurately because of the decompression release on the cam.

so if the timing jumped then it would loose compression? and will it not start if the timing has jumped?

yes if it jumped more tha one tooth it can. b/c your decomp release would work at a differnt time plus your fuel fire ratio would be off

Not 100% on the 250x its been awhile since ive messed w/ one of those. But you should have 2 caps on the sidecover (most are allen heads) Remove those. One gives you access to the crank so you can rotate engine. The other should have a mark on the cover and you line that up w/ a mark on the flywheel.

Then you pull the valve cover off of top of motor and line up the marks on the cam w/ the head. Check to make sure piston is at tdc. All the marks should line up, sometimes they are off a hair but if its off a tooth or more on the cam sprocket then you know where your problem is.

If you dont have a manual for your bike id look it up to be sure of the process on the 250x. But should be pretty similiar to how i described it.

Good luck.

Lol thats why i always try to check the simple things first, even though you dont think its possible alot of times its something so simple you'd overlook it :eek2:

Glad to hear you got it fixed though. Good time to clean the carb anyway i guess huh  lol
