What size rear tires is everyone running? A buddy and myself just picked up 2 new 07 TRX 400ex's and I think the stock tires are too low of a profile.....

Cheers
Mike

Oh I will be posting progress pic's very soon but here one to start

20" rears is the way to go for your average rider,18" for mx.Enjoy the new quad.

I run 20" inch rear tires (same as stock).

20" rears are the way to go unless you only ride mx then get 18" rears

20" here also. Ive seen ppl run 22's for clearance but i dont think its needed. Takes away from the bottom end too much unless you regear. Plus 20's look and handle way better.

Some different brands have different height even though they are all 20" but its not much difference

THE STOCKS ARE 20!

He said he wants a little taller.

I think they make 21's, so if 22's are too tall, you could compromise in the middle.

He asked what size everyone was running.

they do make 21" in some tires if wanted razr has them i think

My stock tires measured 19.25" and the Knarlys measured 20.75". It's not a big difference but it is noticeable. It would have been really noticeable if I didn't regear.

Thanks guys.

I noticed the other day while driving along some tracks that the back end seems to rub on the ground. Also while putting on my nerf bars (had the quad standing up) I noticed the swing arm skid plate it is getting chewed up.

I just figured with a taller tire may raise the ***** end of the quad up a bit but I am a hossie guy (fat) in other terms. haha

If you want to get more ground clearance you can go to a 22" rear and a 23" front. I did this with my 05 just before I sold it and it worked great (see pic). When I got my 08 I decided to go a different route and stay with stock sizes.

I just sold the rear 22" Razrs, but I have the 23" front set on Ebay for sale for $79 (total for both) now.. See Ebay item# 270207041839

So will a 22/11R-9 tire work on the rear rim okay?

Yea it'll fit. The stock wheel is 9''. I have Maxxis Razrs' 20-11/9 and I love them But the only bad thing is, that you loose so much top end (with the stock gearing.) But if you but a aftermarket exhaust, it'll be amazing. With me, tons of bottom due to wheels, TONS of top/mid with pipe.

But, i'd go with the RAZR's if I where you. Either RAZR's or Kenda Klaws. Two of the best.

1) Your running stock size tires. razr's aren't THAT heavy either. So how in the heck are you loosing top end??? It's the same as stock.

2) Tires dont add bottom end..lol:rolleyes: They give better traction, thats all. The only thing they do is rob power, but thats if you have bigger tires or stock size mudlights.

The exhaust I have does help a ton power wise though. More than I thought it would.

Well, I have 6ply. And your prob right about loosing top end, I use to run 22'' for a LONG time, and I guess what I forgot what stock was like. lol Well, you get a heck alot more w/ 22'' (top end that is)

Isn't bottom end, like torque? Because with the small tires, they hook up and toque alot! lol (does torque alot even make since?! lol) And isn't top end, like speed?

Yeah, smaller tires gives more torque, but not stock. Maybe if your going down from 22's its a different story.

Bottom end is refered to as engine power. When you hit the throttle and the power is there instantly, thats bottom end. mid-range is the middle of the powerband, and top end is top end power.

Top end SPEED is how fast you go.

Thanks guys. I picked up ITP Trac Star fronts today and need to find somewhere to buy the 22/11R-9 rears (my local shop can't get them until the end of March). I'll probably have to regear since I only trail ride and need bottom end more than top end.

So do the 11" wide tires bulge out very much on the stock rims?

I believe the Renthal was aluminum. Is that going to be a problem?

Does anyone have a pic of a 400ex with 21x7x10 razrs on front with douglas 10x5 rims and 20x11x10 razrs on rear with douglas 10x8 rims? Just ordered and would love to see what they look like on a quad.
