The cobra on the other hand... I hope your truck runs high 12's, low-mid 13's.

When did I say it couldn't beat a ranger? I said the ranger wouldn't be a problem for me to beat, I wanted to try the cobra! I'm sure your cobra is faster than my truck, but still a fun race. I could dip into high 13's. With more mods than just a programmer I could probably keep up. I used to own a ranger, and high 17 sec 1/4 miles are not what I consider quick by any means! hahaha.

hell I'd be happy if my ranger made that! :eek2: haha

Yah the cobra is all stock motorwise. Just gears, headers, and flow disasters. I'd still like to do a v8 swap in the ranger though and have it beat the cobra!

i love the snow, im so use to drivein big trucks in the snow when i take my moms car out its like time to have a fun time! because then i just can go and i can slid and control it and its easy, but if i lose it then im stuck there with the truck i could get out.

one of the pro's of having a truck. Just remember just because you get going faster doesn't mean you stop faster.

very impressive! Are you familiar with Herman Motorsports at all? They build dessert trucks. The owner of the company lives about 30 miles from me and he has my neighbor do all the screen printing for his clothing line. About two weeks ago they had a truck brought out here for a few pics. This is the truck they brought out... ofcourse it has full fenders on it now, but man that thing is wild.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkCW9qJKD98

Everytime I see that I want to make a long travel truck more and more, but what's the point when you live on the east coast?

KXRida
02-27-2008, 12:33 PM
This is one of Perry McNeil's trucks that he runs. I've been following this guy for a little bit and he builds some wild trucks. His ranger is also seen in the movie Dust To Glory. When they start all the trucks it's the blue ranger that flex's out around the first turn.

http://www.mcneilracinginc.com/photo_gallery/Craigs_I-beam_conversion_tacoma/pic01.jpg

If I ever scored some serious cash, a lot of time, and a hydrolic pipe bender (haha I wish) I would love to build up a truck like this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyJvjtuzN_8&feature=user

my it's nice to dream haha. That truck now has a v8 in it if I remember correctly. I think they tossed the v6.

with longer travel trucks, flared glass fenders are usually a must.

They are also good for being able to stuff a tire and not worrying about rubbing on fenders wells. Also... NO RUST!

woodsracer144
02-28-2008, 07:42 PM
how much are those?

KXRida
02-29-2008, 05:03 AM
fenders or shocks?

I believe my brother's fenders and hood were around $600-700, but where they really get you is shipping, especially for us east coast guys. It was a little over $400 to ship them cross country and they still ended up being damaged. When ohio glass was still in business it wasn't so bad for shipping to the east coast, but the baja market is out west, so what can you do. It all depends who you go through too. If I either build up a long travel truck or build up my ranger atleast one of them will have glass fenders. I'm already searching around for a 2wd ranger/toyota/s10 cheap around here to maybe start a project next summer. All depends what you drive too. For the Gen I and Gen II rangers like I have, you really don't have a selection. You have glassworks and Mcneil racing. Both are great companies, but Mcneil has better prices and IMO better fenders for my style of ranger.

somewhere around the neighborhood of $1000 for a full efi kit. You'd probably be better off cross matching something in the junkyard if possible. What do you have a 350?

Well, the first EFI for chevy came in 87 (TBI, throttle body injection..something like a less sloppy carb), which is the same body style as your truck, so you could go junk yard shopping for a whole efi harness from an 87. A 350 would probably be your best bet for an engine, you won't get good gas mileage unless you go into getting custom tunes or do it yourself, which takes alot of learning, but is more than worth it in the end.

once i get a truck im throwin a programer in it if its a gas or a diesel, then i'll start with some bigger tires then throw in the motor load on shocks i'll get a exhaust system also for it at the same time as the programer, but i really want the snow to go so i could get some more money rollin in to pull a loan,

i would start with a exhaust and if your in to audio but i've been lookin in to programers and then you and get Hp and MPGs also, but you need to spen some $$ to get a good one i've been lookin on ebay alot lately.

good luck hope you can pimp it out,

dude I couldn't drive without extended cab. When I go riding, I have so much stuff that I take with me. I too got sick of driving people around and what drives me nuts was when I'd flip up the drive seat to let people in the back and it got readjusted. Solved that problem quick and in a hurry... Took the driverside back seat out. Yah if people want rides to the track or something, atleast give me something for gas.

What kind of truck are you getting?

If that thing took one hard bump off road (judging, that it may have seen offroad time) you'd probably rip all the fenders off along with the bed and most of the front end. IMO I'd scale down to like 37's at most. Get something that fits in the wheel wells and you can actually flex with.

Gas, grass, or *** no one rides for free haha. I heard that saying from someone before. Well it all depends on the girl too haha. Girls in short skirts + lifted trucks = umm views? haha lifted trucks do have their own perks.

Yah I'm not much into giving rides for free anymore. My truck is not someone else's leisure ride. I only really let my good friends ride with me to the tracks and stuff because we car pool when we go to the tracks. Instead of taking like 8 trucks, we'll just get a few trailers or put two bikes in one truck and take 4 trucks. I still try to give my friends some money for gas because I know how it feels when you're hauling someone else's stuff around for free.

At least on mine the whole fender and cover above the tire was removed and a different fender support was fabbed. Fuse box and coolant overflow were moved up too. You can get away with leaving the inner core or well depending on the kit and travel your trying to get. The Fiberglass fenders allow for much bigger tires without having a big lift, keeping stability. My truck is not that much higher than a stock 4x4 truck and I'm running 37's. I try to get a picture of from inside the hood.

it is, air down and you'll make it up no problem, you have enough flex that you won't need lockers

this summer sometime i need to make a trip down there. after the motor swap in teh Heep of course.

But i got a rear locker anyhow, and by the time i make it down tehre, should be flexing better as well.

One of my latest addictions has been taking this beauty to the car shows around here. It swept all Best Of Shows in every local Houston area show last year, was pretty fun! '51 Ford F1, but dont worry Chevy boys, it has a Chevy heartbeat, with a 502 in it. =) The rears are 15x20. Has ghost flames (cant tell in the picture), paint is PPG Candy Brandywine. Custom interior...it is definitely a lot of fun!

No D44 out of a 79' F150. I don't really wheel it, the occasional mud hole or when someone needs to be pulled out. Yes TTB SUCKS!

Seeing how a TTB 35 will flex just as good if not better stock for stock to a solid axle, I'd say ford really screwed up on that one didn't they? :o The weakest part of them are the shafts/ujoints. If you do a fair amount of wheeling, buy CTM shafts and u joints. Lifetime warranty on them. Also, put 4 tack welds on each u joint cap to keep the caps from walking out. This is what usually leads to broken shafts. Only tack them in, incase you need to replace the u joint you can just grind the welds off.

If you don't really plan on wheeling, save yourself the money and the time and just keep your traction beam. It probably wouldn't be worth it to do all the work to it and have a truck that drives like crap. After I'm done with school my truck will be a trail truck only being trailered to the trails. Once I receive my stimulus package I'll putting in a D35 up front and an 8.8 out back to swap out the tiny stock D28/7.5. I'm just waiting on the check so I can order my gears and install them.

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z152/Rmrider125/truck-1.jpg

yah they can't flex at all
