Will a TRX450R rear shock install on a 400EX without major work?

yes it will fit i have it done, but it will have to be turned so the resi faces the air box. wont fit the other way cause resi is too big. when you do this you have to take the snorkel off the airbox. i just plugged the snorkel hole and run a k&n powerlid now. and it will lower your rear end like an inch cause the 450r shock is an inch shorter than the 400ex shock. i love the ride with it on there.

I dont know how much you're paying for that 450R shock. But an option to look into is to have your stock re vavled for you. If you do that it wont really cost that much more, but it'll be far better performance.

thanks for your help, guys!!!!!
i like to weigh all options in making a decision.

1-if i get a 450r rear shock ($60 - $115) and a powerlid ($90)
and a drycharger ($40)------total $200-250
2-if have existing shock revalved-----total $80-125

i think i will have my existing shock revalved.

again, thanks for your input!!!!

Yes he is right. It would be far cheaper to send off your stock shock. Me on the other hand didn't look this up and just bought a brand new 450r rear shock. I have to say that either way whichever one you choose it's still going to make a huge difference.

Sorry it get off topic but... how do you like your K&N Powerlid? I was thinking about it, but for 90bucks you can get that, or like in another thread on here, you can make your own filter lid for 17 bucks.. I dont know..

Honestly? I dont see why anyone WOULD get a K&N power lid. It's way over priced, doesnt let as much air through as an outer wares. And Probably doesnt filter water and such as well either. Just make your own out of the stock lid with an outerwares that costs 12 bucks. Better performing/easier to clean/longer lasting/cheaper/filters out water as well.

Seems like a no brainer.

it will fit no problem, all you have to do is swap the stock shock linkage with the 450r linkage and it will bolt right up....but it sits about an inch lower in the back...lower the front, it looks good...rides good

the linkages are the same...

bout the powerlid, it does filter out water, it comes with a drycharger/outerwear, yes it costs more but it keeps the main filter clean like new, all you have to do is make sure its oiled.
the powerlid filter stays clean too.

ive had a powerlid since x-mas (2007) and its been working great. it may cost more than just an outwears or homemade lid but it works better than them. if you got he $$ then get it, if not make one or buy the outwear cover for about $13

the 450 shock fits right on the 400ex linkage. you dont need to change it. i've been running this setup for over a year...
