I have seen quite a few "holiday"dealers pop up before xmas selling these chinese made 4 wheelers and it got my 4 year old wanting a 4 wheeler. Can anyone recommend a specific brand or one of the better brands of mini quads? I am looking for something that has a remote kill switch along with way to regulate max speed untill the boy gets used to riding.

What quad to get all depends on what you will be doing with the quad. Will he be racing or just riding trails, etc...

If you are looking for a remote kill switch I think Eton may have a one. http://www.etonamerica.com/index8.htm

well...he is only 4 and he has never rode one before so I think for now it will just be for putting around the yard.

it will only take two trips around the yard and he will be ready for the track....so buy a DRX 50........

I totally agree that if there is any chance of racing in his future you should check out the DRX. You can contact site sponsor G-Force Powersports and Gary aka "bulldogfallon" will hook you up with whatever you need.

If there is no chance of racing in his future maybe check out one of those new Eton Rovers...

That is funny as h*ll isn’t it............ boy have we heard that one before. Kyle's first quad was a 50 with a remote kill switch from the first day I used it just mess with him.

Don't do it.............. get a DRR 50 and be done with it. He'll ride it for at least two years and then you can make it a 70cc and get at least two more years out of it. The possibilities are endless with the DRR. There are a few DRR dealers and I know most of them so I'd rather not recommend one but there all good.

You give that boy a few laps in the yard or about an hour and he'll be used to riding................ believe me.

Yes you could not be more right my friend............. like I said just get a DRR 50 go to the local tacks talk to the mini quad parents and before you know it you'll be one of us :huh It’s a great family sport............ both you and him will meet new friends...... we're..... Like in all forms of racing one big happy (most of the time lol) family and will help each other out. There's nothing like the feeling in your chest when that gate drops.

I'm a DRR die hard also and would recommend the DRR 50 as well. However you may be able to fing something like the Mongoose 50 or a used Predator 50 for cheap and get a start there. There are other NONE CHINESE quads to look into used that you can start on and resale will be there when you are ready for that DRR 50. That is how my little guy started. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks for all the replies!!!
several things:
1.where can I find info on local tracks? (I am in NC 45 minutes north of charlotte)

2. I am not ready for racing just yet.....I got the whole idea of getting my 4 yr old a quad because of the cheap chinese ones that popped up around here at xmas. I have been told to avoid them like the plague.

3.Found one used eton viper in my price range (around $500) localy. found another used one for $350.....there are not many on ebay and I was just wondering if there were any other brands I should look into.

4. my boy is just turning 4 next month. when we went and looked at the eaton he didnt want to get near it while it was running. the kid said its too loud. hopefully a helmet may help "convince" him to get on one.

1. Tha ATVA http://www.atvaonline.com/race/searchresults.asp?state=NC&comp=T

2. Yes avoid the cheap chinese quads and if you are even asking us about local tracks you should look into the DRX. Besides being in a lot of people's opinions the best race mini around they are also very safe. They are stock 41" or 44" wide depending on the model which makes them very stable. They an be kept pretty tame or mod'd to be pretty nasty so they can last you a long time.

3. Eton, DRX, Apex, Kasea, etc... but most will tell you DRX is the best thing going right now in the 50 market.

4. Only you can judge if he is ready to ride. Just start him slow and preach safety!!! Teaching the proper techniques is crucial to a kid that age. My son started at 3 and we were always very strict on safety & technique and it has paid off a bunch. They have free videos at most dealerships from Suzuki or Polaris. Also make sure you have good safety gear including boots, pants, chest protector of body armor, helmet, goggles, leatt brace or other neck support, & gloves.

My son started on a Suzuki LT50 which was fine for the yard but only lasted one day at the races. We quickly learned that if you wanted to compete in our local 50 class the DRR/DRX was the way to go. Lost $1000 on the Suzuki and got the DRR for less that the Suzuki cost me in the first place.

We bought my 6 and 7 year olds Kymco 50's and they are tough machines.........so far. I just took the restricors off and have pulled them off of the trees a couple of times because they are so used to running them as fast as they will go without learning to use the throttle.....lol. I just took them in for their 1st service and they are having to replace the carb on the red one becasue it will not idle down. I wasn't overly thrilled that the floor boards are so rittle. I broke the kickstart side floorboard on the red one trying to get it started the day we brought it home. Needless to say Kymco is replacing it at not charge. I would buy another one in a heart beat. BTW....it only took them about 2 days before they were running them balls to the wall and they had never ridden before, so think about that before you buy!!
