450 or 525 XC

What's up fellas. Just returned from my dealer and he said the 525 is too powerful and I would be better off with the 450. Any feedback?

Not sure that statement is true.........I'd rather have too much than not enough. One nice thing about this engine is that there are several different configurations (bore & stroke) that you can use. So if you buy the 450 and decide it's not enough you could upgrade cylinder to the 510 or even the 540......or larger with a stroker crank!!

If your going to mod it I would buy the 450 and use the money you saved on a 540 kit. The KTM has a smooth power curve so I would say the 525 is just fine for any type of riding. I have a 450 I made into a 610 and it has a even smoother power curve. LOL It just starts out at 40 HP LOL

There were 3 sales guys at this dealer. This dealer pretty much sells all brands and they were all saying the same thing, "get the 425". But I agree, it's better to have more power than less. And it's not like the 525 has uncontrollable power.

Now that I think about it, last week when I went in, they stated they weren't going to get 525s for several weeks but they did have 4 of the 450s in stock; so maybe it was a sales tactic.

Is the stock pipe pretty good? KTM claims we don't need to upgrade because we'll be very happy with the stock.

There's only a $200 difference between the two, so unless your racing a specific class that 450cc is the limit, get the 525. I have the Outlaw 525s and you will love it.

Not sure about the quad but the bike muffler was nice. I would go with either FMF or CT Racing if you go the aftermarket route.

I had a Biggun on my bike and it was a bit loud.

I myself am waiting to see the KTM SX quad models before I get my quad, but my next quad will defenitely be a KTM:D

You are right. Called them last night and they don't know when they're getting 525s. Now I see they just want to get rid of inventory!

Try to talk them down a little in price on the 450. Maybe you can get some free aftermarket parts or a discount on it. The power between the two is probably close so I'd try to save some money if they were willing to deal a little on the 450.

It's 4 horses between the 2. The 525 has more low end, the 450 revs a little bit more.
