I just picked up this 250r for what I believe was a smoking deal because it needs some TLC. I want to get new ball joints for it but I need to know what kind of a-arms they are so I get the correct ones. Thanks Doug

Lonestar would be my best guess, just becuase the way the top arm bends.

Yank one of the ball joints out and measure it where it threads into the a-arm, jd and older lonestar are 14mm, denton, laeger, and most others are 16mm. You can also look for a part # on top of the ball joint or take it to napa and try to match it up-it's probably a volkswagon transporter or ford courier tie rod end.

When ordering I need to know if they are for +2 or +2 +1 or what? How do I know this?

Usually they're all the same length. Like I said before, try cross referencing them at NAPA or Autozone, they're only 7 apiece there instead of the 20+ everybody else tries to charge.

Sounds good so just go to napa with all of them and match them up? Stupid question since its not infront of me, but are all four the same? Or Two for the left and two for the right will be the same?

Sometimes the upper and lowers are different, but usually all 4 are the same on older a-arms. If they're lt, the uppers and lowers are almost always different due to the angle. Your ball joints all look the same, and since they have a zerk in the middle instead of on the side, they are most likely vw transporter tie rod ends(77-78? I think, but am not positive). Are they really loose or are the boots just shot? You can get new boots from autozone for $4(they're in the little red packages that say HELP on them, usually in a big section of all the little pieces that you can't get anywhere else like door clips, ford radio pullers, etc.) and you have to take a old one with you to get the right id for the hole.

That's a nice looking R, are you going to mx it or trail ride it?

It seems like I've answered this question a million times.:D Those ARE Lonestar arms, the ball joints you need are Moog part number ES3045RL if they are the 16mm arms, which they definately look like. If you need to replace the heims, they are standard 1/2" rod ends, which you can pick up at any industrial supply house. If the lower bushings are bad, contact Helm Enterprises (atvbushings.com), he can make the lower bushings.

Bringing this back from the dead and responding to a few posts. I plan on letting my buddy ride mx with this and I will ride my yfz. I did some searching and all the ball joints and tie rod ends are like 18-22 bucks where is the cheapest to get them. NAPA was in the 20 dollar range.

P.S It almost seems better off to just buy new a-arms then trying to replace the parts.
