hehe congrats, I remember what it was like having a brand spanking new 400ex in my driveway to take it out the day after and run over my foot so that I couldn't ride it for a week.

Well, just let it idle for 15 minutes and shut it off, then after about 1/2 hour - 45 min. start it back up for anohter 15 minutes and let it idle, change the plug after another hour or so and ride around the yeard for 1/2 hour puttin around not goin ot hard and then ur all set you cna hammer all u want too.

I heard not to let it idle for a long time when you're breaking it in. I would just ride it around for about 15 minutes not getting on it hard. Then I would let it cool completely down and then repeat 3 more times. I'm sure someone can tell you a better way of doing it.

I'd say just break it in like a 2-stroke, except not as long

-start it up, let idle for about 2 minutes, then 5, and 5 again
-ride around for about 20 minutes at a time (2 times) real slow.
-ride around for another 30, nothng really really hard, but more then last time
-then let er rip!

In a drag it will beat a scrambler 500 in 3rd gear. I have beat mild modded 400ex's in XC races and i have beat heavily modded 300's. thats about all i have really raced.
If he is really interested have him check the link in my sig for more info

cool 300ex

I picked it up last night and went tot ride it today.

WHAT A BAD DAY. I got about eight miles out and stopped for a min and noticed the overflow pissin fuel. so I tapped the bowl a few times to see if just the floats were stuck but, it didnt help,it just pisses wether its running or not .

I shut off the fuel and saw I only had a half tank of gas left...just enough to get home.

when I got back to my friends I was pissed ,its brand new , this shouldnt be takin place ..now at this piont I should have taken the carb off like normal person with some mech. skills would, but ,
the quads is brand new,not even 2 hours old and I was mad so I called the dealer and told them whats up and they said "bring her down"

anywho it took them

5 1/2 HOURS TO TAKE THE CARB OFF CLEAN IT AND PUT IT BACK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was freaking out,I just spend 6000 and no ,Im sorry I'll take care of it . not a word from them except "hey at least you couldnt of gotten lost on the trail, cause you could have lit a match and followed the trail of gas/fire back ...lol)

ANYWAYS ,it must have been just a little something stuck cause it works now..and I will try to ride again tommorow!

I hate my dealer now, this is the 3rd motorcyle I bought from them not counting the 5-10 thou.I spent on parts .and they act like scumbags.I ask if they can tell me how long till it will be done and they say "like an hour" so 2 hours later I say whats the deal? And the sales guy go to find out and never comes back, but I see him avioding me all over the building! and he wont even make eye contact !

at the 4 hour mark I walk right into the (employees only) service area and see 3 guys looking at a manual and my carb trying to figure out how to put it back together! I said how much longer... they say "about 15 min. (an hour later I get outta there)
THEY WONT SEE ANOTHER PENNY OF MY CASH !:grr

Thats the worst thing! I hope they didnt charge you anything! That sucks about your dealer... I like my dealer they are pleasent enough, they are odd and some times I am tempted to just give them the finger.... but they are good guys and they are usually pretty cool.
