anything will better then the stock ones. I have works triple rates revalved by derisi. Best bet is to find a pair of used ones that are close to your weight and ridin style. New rec series works or elkas will prolly be around 400.00. Lot of people use 450R shocks which can be had for about 150 give or take a couple bucks then later down the road you can get them revaled and stuff.

I also have Works Performance tripple rate shocks. The ride quality is much better than stock, even better than stock 450R shocks. I also race MX, they don't fade for me and I weigh 230lbs (almost all muscle) lol. But anyway I take the jumps and absolutely love the whoops, they work great! Although I can't complain anyways because somebody told Works to valve them just so, and ordered them to the dealer but never picked them up. So I got my shocks brand new at around I think $122 bucks. :D

i picked up my works steelers from rockymountain a few years ago.. made a slight adjustment on the springs eventually, but worked well out of the box.
its a nice plush ride, great for hard trails and a bit of track.. not sure id try a racing career on the steelers model though..

had them powdercoated about a year ago.

yea, i think i'd be willing to pay around 600-800 at the most for shocks, i just don't know which ones to get.

If you ride Casual MX, you can get the Works steelers with remote rezzies and will work just fine. For more serious riding go with Elka sport & racing series shocks shown here for a solid price.

Stock 450R shocks and get them rebuilt is always another option.
