400ex ball joints VW replacement

If I have to replace my current balljoints I was told some VW tie rod ends will work. Which ones...which years.

i read basically the same thing a week or 2 ago but it was for an aftermarket a-arm that they would fit. it was a right hand outer tie rod end for a 1970 vw beetle. i looked them at an auto parts site and they are heim ends not a round ball joint.

Found some on Ricky Stator I think can be made to work for 20 a piece...we will see.
