As many of us are getting ready for the 2003 season, building or redoing our quads, searching for the ultimate sponsorship as well as getting out of shape. “In my case I was already there”

I figured I would share some related links/info in the net to keep you pumped up, and hopefully give you hindsight on what you should be training on.

Case in point, I am 40lbs over weight based on a V02 test recently taken, my cardiovascular endurance was off by almost 65%. Results from the test indicated with short muscular stature from lifting too many weights, my muscle tissue was bursting 100% of energy over a short period of time, causing extreme cramping and severe arm pump and fatigue.

One example of what I was doing wrong. I would load up with Creatine prior to a race. “Bad idea”. This causes your muscle to pump up, and even worse when you’re hydrated. Maybe you have to be a tall skinny arse for this sport rather than a short fat guy.

To help remedy my severe arm pump. I go in for surgery Friday morning to remove the upper/lower muscle tissue lining on my forearms, caused from too much weight lifting. Expected recovery time is 3 weeks. I also gave up donuts/beer/pop and all sugar. With consuming about 6 small meals a day mostly protein. About 20 lbs of chicken a week. Wait till I start laying eggs. So far I have dropped about 12 lbs of the 40.

Instead of me babbling on. Here is some web-sites that I found to be informative. Even though most pertain to moto-cross rather than XC. Primarily the same motor functions. Let me know if you guys found these helpful.

I work out 6 days a week, an hour per day on a Bowflex...and have been doing so for over 7 months now. I still get very sore after riding but I don't tire near as easy while riding. I think a good routine of cardio (at least an hour a day) is in order. I probably need to give up beer, too...but it tastes SO good!:D

Post a question in http://morpheus.ronronmx.com/ He seems to have a remedy for everything.

Mich Ultra is not that fatting. Tastes like crap. But it's beer.

Cool, thanks..
I've read the label on those, and Miller Lite is almost the same, and much cheaper, 96 calories and 3 carbs. I only drink at the most 2 beers per night (except the weekends) so I don't think its going to do that much damage.

Nice post..

I recently dropped about 45 pounds over the last 6 months or so. Its not really that hard to do if you stick to a good diet and eat right and workout some. I feel a ton better then I use to.

Staying in shape is very important, especially the older you get.;)

But wouldnt you (we) have a lower center of gravity, and thats better for cornering LOL :)

Great thread.... now who is gonna get serious and "do it"

I think the best thing to do is just to lay off pop and sugary stuff a few days before the races and start drinking a lot of water. That in its self helps a ton if you ask me along with taking asprin before you race to thin your blood.

hmmmm... good info! this apply to a beginning race (like myself) and are there any tips i could have also. but Nausty, why would you want to thin your blood?

thinning your blood decreses arm pump, and any other pump you may have in your body (not ment in a perverted way). I use it. it works.
I also prefer using a more natural of working out, i.e. push-ups, crunches, bike riding, and RIDING.

i feel your pain, we all were once beginners (not that i am an expert, i am FAR from it)
arm pump is a cramp in your forearm (sp?) from clutching, or excessive up-and-down movement. It is very annoying and it slows me down. it can also happen in your ***** and thieghs if ya move around on your seat a lot.
Sugestion: drinks lots of water a few days before the ride, like nausty said, take the asprin when you are just heading out, and have a blast. Whether you get arm pump or not, nothing beats a good ride.
hope this helped!
