i would like someone to explain to me the cr500 link and the no link rear end n the 250r , is it for mx only, i assume the cr500 uses its shock instead if the r shock but i cant find much info on this now so if someone could help me out i would appreciate it

Do a search. There is about 100 threads talking about the cr500 link and also no link. This should help you out

ive been on this site for over 2 years, and i dont recall many threads about this at all...

you act like its a "450 vs 250" thread...

i recall many threads about the cr500 link also... but in a nut shell: the cr500 link requires the cr500 linkage, a frame designed for that linkage(or cut and reweld the upper shock mount on the stock frame), and a longer shock specifically for that setup. it moves the shock into a more vertical position(like a bike) which makes it react better to jumps/bumps/whoops. but the linkage does hang lower than the stock linkage.

the no link requires a no link frame(or modified stocker), no link swingarm, and a specific shock for that application. alot of desert guys like it for it's increased ground clearance, but most people say they are a compromise. the faster you go the better they feel and they're not that great for slower speeds...

I use to have a stock linkage- Laeger swinger with a custom axis shock. I liked it for hole shots but it didn't handle whoops very well and cornering suffered due to the stock length swing arm. Now I have two 250rs both set up with stock frames and roll design gull wing -1/2" no-link swingers with custom axis shocks on both for MX in the rear. They handle really good through rythem sections and the rough stuff. Big air is No problem either, very smooth. I didn't need an after market frame because the shocks that I use have a stock type mounts at the top.
I have friends that swear by the cr500 set up but they usually require after market frames $$$ that have an offset top shock mount, cr500 linkage, cr500 swing-arm, and cr500 style shock, all together more money! You can't go wrong with either set up. Both will give you longer travel than stock linkages if that's what you're looking for. I think the No-links have just a little more travel.. But You really need a Good shock that is set up right for you and your riding style and yes like someone else said The faster you go the better they feel!;)

This is the rear of one of the quads. All I had to modify was moving stock airbox up and back to clear the movement of the shock compressing, I just didn't use the stock bolt hole for the airbox and just zipped tied it to the frame in 3 places. I forgot to mention that I'm running a LT500 air boot that is a little longer also so I didn't have to cut the bottom of this stock airbox.

On this bike I run a stock airboot and have the stock air box factory mounted.

I know it's hard to see but I cut the bottom of the airbox (a little) to the shape of the shock when fully compressed or bottomed out for shock clearance and then taped it up real good. An aftermarket aluminum airbox might fix this problem since they are more compact. But for now mine works fine.

BOOKOO Travel! on Stock frame. Not aftermarket, not modified either for rear no-link set up...only to accept 400ex plastic. (This is the one with LT500 boot and zipped tied airbox also)
