The stock air intake on the Predator 500 has to be one of the most restrictive setups out for a quad. The poor engine has to breath through a straw.
A lot of people will take the air box and boot completely out and run a clamp on filter straight onto the carb. Rath sells a billet adapter that you keep the intake on the carb but allows you to run a clamp on filter in the stock airbox so it has protection from water without the lid.
There is a new adaptor out for the Predator that cost 1/2 as much as Raths setup. I just put it on my wifes Predator and it seems pretty nice. Clamp on adaptor for Predator 500 (http://www.d2moto.com/Items/Item.aspx?itemid=1198289)
I'll post pics of it mounted if anyone is interested.
