Well I just started up on this site and got plenty of info from reading all the posts on here. Much thanks to all of you!

Well here is what is going on though got my 02 400ex back in August and not too long ago my friend said he would have it powdercoated for free! Well its getting done! I am going black on black been tearing down and I figured I would post here so everyone could see the progress. I will have pictures up all the way through the build as well.

Here are a couple pics of the frame and stearing stem getting ready to go for the powdercoat.

All The Bolts, Nuts, and anything else baged up and written with where they went. Makes it so much easier for reassembly!

Some of the polished up parts to go back on.

Next is the oil tank that are black as well.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/QuIcKlSvTeC/P1000587.jpg

That is it for right now, let me know what you think. I am going to put some maier black plastics on it. Thinking a with a white tribal decal going down the side... not over the top but to add a little something.

Thanks Nic

Nice PC! Love it! The only thing I would have done differently was get like a billet shifter and brake pett, just to make it kind of stand out, and add a little Bling-Bling.. But just my little 2 cents! Also, what color was that PC? And do you think you could hook me up too?;) Hope it turns out sick! Got any pics before you started? And make sure to keep us updated!

Good-Luck!

Don't take this the wrong way because I know how good it feels to rebuild a machine but did you request that wrinkle finish?

Well the guy that was doing it was sugesting going that route to help hide the imperfections in the welds. I am liking it though... plus is should be much more durable that regular powdercoat.

Looks good, why don't you get those parts you polished clear coated with gloss PC then you won't have to polish them again.?

Looking forward to seeing it back together!

Durability shouldn't really be any different but if wrinkle finish was what you were going for it looks like a good job.

Quicklsvtec

Well durability will be different. The wrinkle powder as a thicker base. Which in turn will make it a little tougher to the little scratches and such. No matter what I think it looks pretty good so I am happy.

Well I have been down with a stomic Flu for the last week or so, but I just got back on the quad. Right now I am taking a break from working on the A Arms doing some stripping then some painting. Here are a couple of pics of work from today.

This is the paint stripper and an A Arm showing how well it works.

Well I have been working here and there on the quad nothing really that major has gotten done for a bit... Recieved almost all the bearings and swing arm bolt through the mail. Still waiting on the stainless steel bolt kit to get here so I can actually start the reassemble. But here are some pics of what I actually work on today.

Did not know that the stock exaust could shine... I know it will not last but it will look good for a bit on there.

You do that with a bench grinder/polisher with a polishing wheel on it. Get your self some polishing compund which is made for hard metals... (Steel and such). Then just spend a long time sitting in front of it!

That would be pretty cool to do. That might be something for this site to bring up kind of like quad of the month. It might get people that think they have to spend alot of money, to figure out its just time you need.

Anyway I have been pretty busy with work so I havnt spent hardly anytime on the quad. I recieved my blakc maier plastics but am needing to send them back. The front fender came and was pretty much paper thin in one area... I am rather irratated about the whole situation. They are going to replace it though. Well here are some of the new pics of the quad. Only have the rear on cause I have to send back the front. After the first time I started it the header polish didnt last and turned to that bronze color... which still looks pretty sick I think. Still having to put a few more little things on and some other little things before I think it is ready to take to the Dunes. Anyway here they are!

Thats amazing, the orange plastic I bought was some of the strongest plastic I've ever seen. I look forward to see that black beast once you get it done. The only thing is all that black looks like it would be hard to keep clean.

03-16-2008, 03:34 PM
I just have to know what exactly you used to polish the exhaust? I have used cleaners, sanding, and fine steel wool but it never came out looking anything remotely like that. It looks amazing. I dont have to worry about mud stains because if I run into mud I tip toe through it lol or I whip it around and go back another way.

Quicklsvtec
03-16-2008, 07:33 PM
Yeah man well with the exaust most of it is time you spend... I started out by cleaning it good. After I took 320 grit sand paper up to 600 afterward. Then it moved into a grinder with a buffing wheel put on it. You take a bar of a high mineral content buffing compound which is made for harder metals... Such as steel and just spend alot of time sitting there and buffing going through alot of beer! LOL I will probably end up posting a thread on the subject here soon enough with pictures.

Hope that helps you man.

Peace Nic

03-16-2008, 07:52 PM
hey man thanks, i'm going to have to try that. I'm thinking for tight spots a dremel??? I have a dremel kit with little buffing wheels, grinders, sanders that will get in tight spots. Other than that use a grinder with a buffing pad. I'm not afraid to spend a lot of time on something. I tried a port and polish with the extra head I have for a 400ex. That took so long but it worked.

Well alright I have been trying to get my new maier fenders put on for awhile now. Its not cause I am dumb its because I have now been sent two defective front fenders! Both I have got have been paper thin and buckling in the same place on the left fender at the bottom. Has anyone got this before from them. The company I ordered it from says they have never heard of it before but looks like it happen's.

The worst part about it is that we have a trip to the dunes next weekend and I might have to use my stock yellow plastics if they do not get me a good set by then! DAMN!

Here are a couple pics, I am really up in arms about this whole deal I am getting!

Nice Nice Good to know someone knew what my name means... I still have it just has to be rebuilt, it sat in the driveway for four years while I was in Germany and Japan. So now I am in this so it still just sits. Here is a pic of it, back in the day it ran a 14 sec flat.

MY OTHER TOY...

I know what you mean. My truck's tire blew out on me last friday on my way to work. Sitting on the highway going 50mph felt my truck doing somethin wierd. I pulled over to the right lane and as soon as I got there my right front blew out. The tire ripped all the way around where the side wall meets the tread. It really sucked.

Anyway yeah man I want to drive the honda again soon eough.

That was at sand lake in Oregon. Not the best place for riding but good enough for a day trip, only 1.5 hours away from where I live. Sorry no action pics, but working on putting the video we took to get put up. Been working too much to work on that. Thanks though.

Peace Nic

You should take all of the disks out of your muffler and just put the endcap back on it. thats what i did, it gave me more bottom end power. it saves u from having to polish and polish your exhaust because of soot. but it is really loud tho
