So anybody got any ideas On what I should do: Stock or not Stock

I would keep it stock. The 450 will be alot of power by itself and modding the motor will give you alot of reliability problems.

Keep the stock stroke. Add compression and a cam. Oversized valves maybe...

Good Luck:cool:

Yah I think I am just going to rebuild stock its the cheapest and this thing had quite a bit of power to begin with. Dont have enough money for cam and oversized valves right now. Thanks for the info though

go back with a stock piston if you dont want to run 100% race gas if you dont mind race gas bump to the 13.5:1 , along with a stage 2 hotcams and stock vavle train and youll really enjoy it, i have two crfs, so trust me on this one the cam and piston will really wake it up, you also have to remember these motors need alot of "Checking" on, check the vavles every 6 hours and DONT take the vavle adjustment lightly they need to be right, braking a vavle will destroy the whole motor almost also the vavle springs can go by a rule of thumb just replace them every other piston or when your building new. after about 35 hours on the motor itll prolly be due for a new piston and having the vavles reseated, you can only bore the cyclinder 1mm over so after that youll need to replace the cyclinder. Also change the Oil as often as possible i change mine after EVERY ride, the motor only holds a little over a quart so this isnt expensive, and a clean filter EVERY ride is also very important, those titainium intake vavles are very easy to get dirt and build up on and any little bit will end up on them, this will then make the intake vavles overly tight and then you break one and you see what im getting at......you really have to baby these things maintence but the power is worth it.

the 450 dirtbike power doesnt come cheap......

If you read the whole thread through you will see that he busted a valve which detroyed his motor. The is also some pictures of the damage. It is alot worse then the pictures show.:ermm:

Thanks for all of the info I will take really good care of the motor since I seen what a valve can do to it. I only have enought money for stock right now but. I will take what you said in mind and check the valves pretty frequently. And change the oil quite often two. Once I get all the rest of the parts for my bike and save up some money which should be this summer since I will be done college and starting a fulltime job. We will see what I will do to my motor next winter. Thanks for all the great advice I really apreciate it Thanks

Dont go back to stock valves, or you WILL be checking them every 10 hours or so. Get a complete set of Kibblewhites. I have them and have not had to check my valves (because it starts first kick) in over 100 hours. Just runs like a dream. A hot cam2 is only 150 bucks and as for a piston, I'd get the CP piston. Its light and does well. Keep it to pump gas compression (12.5 & below). If you can save for it, balance your crank to your piston so you dont have issues later. CRF/TRX motors are notorious for blowing crank bearings after a few years, by balancing, you'll get rid of that.

damn if i had a motor that lasted a hundred hours i would jump for joy.....lol I have a new motor sitting here ready to rock for the 08 season so when i pull the motor out of my prp to swap them ill slowly be building it up, i was considering going a different route than the normal ported, polished, 14:1, hotcams, and titainum valves......i was thinking about going to Stainless vavles with HD springs and retainers, a 490 kit, a real torque monster of a cam, and one of my ported heads too, prolly keep the compression a mild 12:1 i think this would be a great practice motor sinc ei could run it on pump or a 50/50 mix.

btw just cause it starts first kick doesnt mean its good i have a 06 motor with a 13:1 piston, decked head puts it at a little over 14:1, hotcams stage2, a ported a polished head, and titainium vavles. and she starts first kick hot or cold, just gotta have it at TDC when you go to kick it and make sure the choke is on if its the first time starting for the day. and the vavles always need reshimmed every time they are checked in this motor ;) its usaually only one size change up or down outta the hotcams shim kit but its still a change.

i get a picture tomorrow night of what happens when you blow a crf motor when its wound out about 100 feet off the starting gate, it looks like someone shot 10 holes through the piston with a 22:ermm: this wasnt my handy work but a friends.

sparks will tell you to replace stock valve guides every 10 hrs, hondas only, and the exhaust is where the problem lies. the type of vavle doesn't matter as much as the wear on the valve guide, most valve failures on hondas are caused by worn guide, not the type of valve!

Heres some pictures of the new frame. I also got my motor back togther and i replaced the stock shift shaft with the shift shaft out of the 06/07 trx 450r works like a charm.
The frame is a arens frame made for the crf motor 400ex geometry
