I am looking to buy a YFZ450 and I have been looking for a 2005 limited (yellow/black plastic) but I have found a 2006 limited for around $4500.00 so I am wondering if this is a good deal and is the 06 any better than the 05. Thanks for any help

yes- the 06 is better than the 05...

they put in a new crank and came 10ccs bigger at a true 450, they gave it a larger radiator, they changed the chain adjusting system, they re-designed the head, they got the electrical charging system figured out, the seat isnt a rock... changed the carburetion a little, and improved the shocks a bit too...

The 06 is definitely better than the 05 for all the reasons 250r4life listed. I have the 05 Special Edition but the 06 would have been a better choice. I've switched to the 06 crank and bought an 06 seat -- the 05 seat will wear your butt out. It's stiff as a board. And the chain adjustment on the 05 is also a pain in the butt. The 06 and later adjustment mechanism is the way Yamaha should have done it to begin with.

The 06 is better, They made 80 different changes from 05 to 06. I think the only differance from 06 to the 07-08 was the oil mod.

well, that and they supposedly improved the clutch, and gave them pro-taper handlerbars

true... i was just emphasizing the increase making it a "true" 450, as opposed to being 10ccs less than its counterparts

is the 06 worth the extra 1-2000 dollars extra for it over the 05?
what i mean is that around here 05s are between 3000 and 3800 while a 06 starts at 5000
is it worth it if buying used to go the extra mile?

yea my friend bought his 2006 for about 4500 all you have to do is look around and I bet by now you could get one for around 4000 if you check craigslist.com and autotrader mags. Yamaha made over 80 changes from 05 and when i ride my other friends 05 it sucks compared to the 06. Just my $.02

nothing wrong with trying to get things as cheap as possible. the seller is trying to get as much as possible, cash talks even to firm prices. all he can say is no.

BTW: NEW 07's were selling for $4500 a few weeks ago, 08's are a grand more but dropping...
