Got a question... I bought a used 05 450... It starts kinda hard when it's cold but then first kick after its' been ridden.... Also It likes to back fire a few times then about 2 or 3 kicks later it fires?? Could this be a jetting issue.. It came with a full sparks exhaust, aluminum air box and sparks foam filter... Any help is apprecieated... thanks

Hah just make sure the choke is on. My 05 R is temprimental in the cold as well. Wont start at all unless the choke is on.

its just the nature of the beast. put choke on, hold in hot start and kick......should start first kick.

What would they have changed from 04 to 05 that makes this happen??? My 04 starts and runs like a champ no matter the temp?!

It's all in the jetting and valve adjustments. Sometimes with the valves slightly out, they are a bear to start, this is only amplified by the cold weather.

Your intake valves could be getting tight, And you should have a 45 poilt jet, If you go up to a 48 poilt jet it will help ya on cold starts. 50 if you have some motor work.

I replaced my stock NGK plug with a new but same plug and it made cold starts much easier. Mine is an 04. By cold start I mean below 25F.
