Most people that get nautical stars have no idea what they mean, im guessing the two posted just thought they looked cool (no offense). They were common with early sailors, they actually meant guidance and hope.

tree and skull done by separate artists

actually ya i knew what the star meant and thats why i got one... it started with early sailors for guidance and protection and now its considered a military tattoo instead of just one branch

say that to the wrong person you may end up seeing stars, just because it looks like nothing to you gives you no reason to judge someone else, you gotta look a lil deeper than skin buddy ~

correct.... I have one in my tattoo on my ankle, there is a lot of symbolism in many people's tattoos that most people don't both thinking about.

The stars have a lot of meaning to different people. Its mainly a symbol of finding your way through life. Gays also use them to distinguish themselves.

Historically back in the 1940's and 50's when alternative lifestyles were not the norm and often women had to hide their alternative choices they would sport a hidden nautical star. Often they would get the star tattoo done on the inside of their wrist where it could easily be hidden by a watch during the day but shown off in the evening when out on the town. Today many lesbians where the nautical star tattoo to show their connection with their early pioneering sisters.

Cool, good for you. I'm glad you know what it meant unlike alot of people that get them just for looks.

The star looks good, but I'd suggest adding something around it to make it fit your arm better. The star is kinda small compared to the canvas ;) Love the chest piece though - thanks for the eye candy of the day :)
