Xbox 360 Hard Drive Questions

Okay. So I just bought a 120GB hardrive off of ebay. It did not include a transfer cable. From what I'm understanding if I tranfer my account over to the new harddrive I can redownload everything I had from the marketplace for free? If this is true all I'll need to do is transfer my game saves. Can I just pick up a memory card to do this or do I need the transfer cable?
