View Full Version : Ways to increase steering angle?

I was wondering if anyone knows of good aftermarket parts that will increase the steering angle on the 400ex? (Other than re-doing the entire front geometry)
One ghetto-fab way I was considering was to grind down the steel curved plate (which stops the steering in the left and right directions) about an 1/8" on each side which would affectively increase the steering angle by a few degrees in both directions.
It looks like there is enough buffer space in all directions to do this.
Comments? Suggestions?
Thanks

I always thought about the same thing grinding down just a tiny bit to each side of that steering stopper thing. I wouldnt try it on my own quad but I think it could work. I dont know if there will be binding issues with ball joints or tie rods or something

Yeah, I'm afraid of the same thing, and that's why I haven't done it yet. Plus, there's no turning back.
I'll do it if you do it. haha

you could always buy a junk stock steering stem for dirt cheap and try it out. you could probably find a SLIGHTLY bent one for almost nothing on ebay or something.

You can do! it if you dont like spot weld piece that the same size you took out ,plus you can probably get used stem for $80 from eastcoastatv.

why would u need more? the 400ex has a really tight turning radius as it is? I cant even imagine needing more.

i don't get why you would want to do it either. just blip the throttle an you will spin right around. an if your on pavement the roads usually wide enough to make a full turn anyways.

It's not for turning radius silly
It's for more turning during a opposite-lock drift.
Sometimes you can't get enough steering angle which causes you to loose the back end.
I was thinking of doing the same thing. I do know that their would bea little more stress on the tie rods when the bars are turnt all the way in one direction since your tires at more of a angle.
You could just shave down the notch on the stearing stem and not touch the frame and see how it turns. If the affect was bad a new stem only costs $40 or a used one off here $20.

The easiest way we do it for ice racing is to fab a small plate that moves your inner tie rod ends a little further from the stem giving you more throw.(turning your wheels further)

Just buy a crappy used stem and try it out. Modify the stem, not the frame.
