i read the thread above..im pretty clear on the events and how a cam works. i want to know what the faster x/c guys use ? im leaning at the 2002 crf first ,then 2003 crf next, then stage2 hotcam. im using a 11.5 :1 stock bore piston,i weigh 240 so i need torque but want it to rip too! im ready to order the 2002 crf cam tomorrow but if theres a better bot-mid without upper loss choice let me know. the crf cams are drop-ins correct ? meaning no spring changes are becessary. COM MON SPRING !:macho

I personally like my HRC cam. Added great power!

the 04-05 hrc cam is a upper-mid through top end cam though. great for drags and road riding and open stuff. i need power kinda everywhere but if i was to sacrifice ...i would sacrifice top end. i need response with some rip too!! KEEP EM COMING:macho

from what i see...the 03 has a little more top end ,and the 02 has more bottom. did you have to change springs? ANYONE HAVE A SHIM KIT THEY WANT TO SELL ?? with only 3 shims missing hopefully !:D

It seemed to broaden power all throughout for me, but I'm also running a Dasa exhaust. Here is another suggestion http://www.moto-xperts.com/page11.php?view=productListPage&category=16 Moto-Xperts cam. It would be worth checking out and calling and asking Toby about it.

im seeing the 06-07 hrc is more upper low and mid range. that sounds ok too. i really dont want any wild profiles due to valve train wear. im kinda leaning towards the 02 crf tonight! i just bought a stage2 locally yesterday.i think im gonna have to sell it.:macho

i weigh 230 and i got an 07 w/ the hrc kit it gave mine a **** load of bottom and mid compared to what I have been reading. But I got the whole kit 06 and up come w/ a bigger head pipe and no air box lid is used.i didn't want to spend a butt load of money in the beginning to go fast so that is why i went that route.I would like to see what a different cam would do.But i also heard that the HRC cam is just a crf cam.the HRC part #is 14110-nlz-610.Hope you can get some help out of this.

the hrc cam you bought was an 06-07 hrc cam ....the crf didnt copy the hrc it was the opposite.because the crf was using that grind in 05 ...one year before the 06-07 hrc cams came out.anyways yes....that is a good cam. thats the same one im getting with the 05 crf cam. the hrc for the 04-05 was supposed to be a mid-top biased cam...the opposite of what i need. i saved a couple hundred bucks and just bought the cam and skipped the other stuff that made the kit. i have a slip -on,no-lid,just did the jetting. i meed to find out about drilling out that t fitting though. thanks:macho

After all the reading and research I've done, I'm gonig with the 02 CRF and a 12:1 CP piston.

Personally I would go with a stage 1 hotcam or an 02 CRF. I used a stage 1 hotcam in mine for a while and the bottom end power is unbelievable. I now run an 04/05 HRC cam with an 11.5:1 piston. It's great for holeshots on MX tracks, but man I sure miss that real low end tractor pulling power the stage 1 had when I get in tight stuff. I often think about switching back now... I loved my stage 1! I know if I ran XC that is the only cam that I would consider, or the 02 CRF (virtually identical)
