I am sure there is a existing thread about air scoops but I dont have the time to find it. Anyone who has air scoops, could you please give me some feedback, positive or negative? I am thinking of buying them. Please feel free to recommend a specifc brand if you are happy with them.
Thanks

i'm currently fabricating my own air scoops. They say they work but for the most part its looks. Mine are something special that nobody has ever done before when i'm done i'll post some pictures or something

I bought mine off ebay. triumph motorsports made them.same as OMF. not sure they made a great deal of difference as far as cooling the engine, but they give it a more racey look.

I dont have any yet, but im planning on getting some soon. They probably are mainly for looks, but every little bit helps right. It will also depend on brand. Look at the angle of them, some will direct more air than others. Im looking at OMF. They arnt the cheapest, but to me they look the best and look like they have a good angle for air flow. If you are really wanting to cool your engine down, get a aftermarket oil cooler or a fan to mount on the stock one.

I put some on for looks and maybe a little help w/ airflow... They are great places for stickers. I forget the mfg of mine, but they were ebay purchased. They were kind of a b&$#h to install, but I like the looks.

01-05-2008, 01:16 PM
The scoops i'm making i'm not sure what angle to have them at. They could be really wide or just 30 degrees from straight idk

I like mine.

I have UM scoops. Alot of people say my quad would look better without them, but I dont care. Thats why its my quad!:D

They seem to be pretty tough too....they survived a 4th pinned roll on hard clay:blah:

Can you post some pics of those? Can you tell a difference with cooling and how easy are they to mount?

And what exactly did you do to make the yfz450 scoops fit and how much are they and do you have to have maier fenders to put the yfz scoops on. Can you put a picture up showing exactly how you mounted them. Why did you have have to use hand guard mounts for the bottom? I am thinking of PRM Scoops but if the yfz scoops are cheaper than $50 dollars I might go with them if it's not to involved on the install. Thanks in advance. Sorry for so many questions but your bike is very cool looking.

could someone with OMF's measure 2 things real quick? I need to know the width of the bottom panel in 2 places up front near the shocks then the side of the engine. If someone could do this that would be great, thanks

this may be a dumb question but has anyone had any trouble with the tires hitting the scoops in a awkward landing or something

i wondered the same thing. The scoops i designed are parallel to the tires when turned all the way. When you bottom out te 400ex the wheels just move up higherand they dont really arc in. Thats why i was wondering the distance of the OMF air scoops in 2 places the bottom front near the shocks and the bottom rear towards the motor. These 2 measure ments will determine the angle but I never got any replies

Ive never had a problem with my tires hitting my UM scoops.

My 450r shocks only have maybe an 8th inch of clearance, but they clear barely. Lol.:D

i just bought a set off of ebay for 45 bucks with shipping. pretty cheap! it was from cbd motorsports. i think it makes my quad look better and it directs alot more air to ur engine helping it stay cooler. i know that if u have a 440cc u definatley want the scoops cuz they can help protect from the rocker arms breaking or going bad.

www.ebay.com or www.rockymountainatv.com. Another option is most ATV accesories manufacturers will send you free stickers if you call them or go to thier website and request them by e-mail.

I bought them from www.gopartsdirect.com for $64.95. That was about the cheapest I could find them new. The difference in prices was not much from site to site. I bought them from this web site because it seemed to be a little more on the up and up then the others.

I've heard nothing but good things about "Tinner" scoops. Jim does a good job but, he's not the fastest at responding to e-mail and I had to wait 2 weeks before he made my scoops and sent them to Pappy. Be prepared to wait a little. Remember "Good things come to those who can wait".

I'm still in the process of making my air scoops. They are a few designs into 1. Mine bolt to the frame and the plastic bracket. Hopefully I will get them done soon, i've been busy with school and robotics trying to get everything done to ship the robot to Georgia to be weighed in and what not before competition.

The feel like steel and the little rust that was on them confirms they are steel..They went to the strippers today, and to Powder coat tomorrow morning to be coated Satin Black like the rest of the chassis. I am having the chassis, nerfs swinger ect all done locally because the price is good. The place does alot of commercial work and they have a 26' oven, so adding a couple more little pieces wont change the price much if at all.....
