well 06-07 are better but not by much. they have a better linkage ratio to prevent the bucking when landing a jump and so forth. Best bet is to do an aftermarket linkage at minimum on any 450R

The 06-up is also a bit longer and anymore most of the new linkages made for stock swingarms are built around the 06-up design. What are you wanting to do?

yeah you will have problems, your quad will set way low. The shock will be to short and the linkage wont be long enough and it will cause all sorts of problems

is the valving or spring rate different between the two also?

i ride trails and my bike likes to wheelie. i heard that the 06-07 swinger was longer and i figured it would help keep my front end down.

The 06+ swingers are a little longer than the 04/05 swingers. The 06+ also uses a different linkage with a more progressive rate, to help eliminate the bucking most commonly found on the earlier ones. I've ridden both and there isn't much of a difference. The 06 seems to keep the wheels on the ground slightly better, obviously because of the longer swinger. Any aftermarket setup, including a stock rebuild (GT Thunder/Derisi/C&D) will do worlds more than an 06+ setup would. Also note if you want to run an 06 swinger on your 04/05, you need the swinger, shock, and linkage setup. You need it all for it to work properly.
