polishing stock swingarm

can anyone advise the best method to 'smooth out' the swinger before polishing. sanding by hand is too big a job, does sandblasting get rid of all the pitting or is there a better way?

On stuff thats flat or that has some radius i use a D/A air sander and for the nooks and kranies i use a dremel then go over by hand.
