I run a 400ex master with 250r calipers. There is no reason you can't have good brakes with your setup either. I've gotten mine now so it stops BETTER than a new quad. The lever only pulls back maybe 1/2-3/4" at the end when fully applied! The brakes don't drag either.

I've bled plenty of brakes in my life but I could never get the lever as tight as I wanted on my R. I tried bleeding the conventional way, I even tried reverse bleeding and pushing fluid up to master but I still wasn't happy. They brakes were alright as is, but I knew they could be better.

So in comes Ebay, I bought 3 Russell speed bleeders(8mmx1.25?), not cheap maybe $7 apiece, but they work awesome! The cost is worth the time/frustation saved in my opinion. After I installed these I put a clear hose on the bleeder leading into a bucket and then started pumping the brakes. You will be surprised how many very tiny bubbles keep coming out even after you think they've been bleed enough. I also cracked the banjo at the master cylinder to get even more air out.

Hopefully this helps you.

EDIT: Meant to say I'm running what I believe is a 250r master, I swapped out the 400ex one.

nice post Aceman. On my R I have to pull the lever almost all the way to the handle bar to get it to full stop. I think i still have a good bit of air in mine. Ill go back over them again and see if I can tighten them up a bit

try the reverse bleed method followed by bleeding the system at the banjo.

i've been running my OEM brakes for years now and have never had any problems with them and they lock at about 1/2 lever pull. ofcourse it wouldnt be possible without the use of after market braided lines.

Put a cbr front master cylinder on it and run stainless steel lines.

The lever is adjustable, has way more power, and a way better controllable stiff feel. You can get them on ebay for 5-20 bucks, and they're worth every penny.

OK found the problem changed out the metallic brake pads out to oem seams to stop much better and no brake drag.
