I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be using a 400ex carb on my upcoming 300ex build. My question is, are there any factory 400ex carbs that are better (or different) than others?

I ask because shopping on Ebay confuses me. A nice clean looking carb with a cable sells for less than other scuzzy carbs with no throttle cable. On that same note, does a 400 throttle cable work with the factory 300 thumb throttle housing?

Thanks guys.... all that said, anybody have a nice 400 carb they wanna sell or trade? :D

Just get one of the good clean ones. Cable or none. You simply remove the 300ex cable from the 300ex carb and use it on the 400ex carb. Hooks right up.

The airboot is the tougher fit. ;)

May go ahead and buy a $15 rebuild kit also. And replace those parts. A lot of times the needle valve rubber is dried out, etc..

Thanks Brandon.

The reason I made a point to ask about the 400 cable was because my 300 cable needs replacement anyways. I was hoping to snag a nice newer 400 carb with cable and use the cable if possible. Otherwise I might as well get a 400 carb without a cable and snag a new 300 cable.

Mind if I send you a PM with some questions?

Thanks,

Jeremy

PM is fine. If there's a slow response I appologize. My pop-up notification never seems to work even though it is enabled. So I miss them occasionally.

You can just ask away in here. I'll answer the best I can. I'm not by any means an expert. But, I've been wrenching on my 300ex for 10-1/2 years now so I'll do my best.

As you've noticed I make my share of mistakes.. lol. Thanks for the correction btw. ;)

Brandon is right. The 300ex throttle cable will fit right up. Also it is a hassle to get the boot to fit, but there are some tricks. I boiled my air boot for a little bit, then put the end of the boot on a jar to stretch it out a little. You might want to try that. Other than that, it fits right up!

Aye, once I got mine on the carb, I started disconnecting the carb at the airbox leaving the boot on the carb.. lol. ;)

Ball park here fellas, but what about jetting? I'm in the process of this change also.
