This past week we made a 15 hour trip down to the little sahara sand dunes in oklahoma. This was our first trip to sand dunes and definately wont be our last. Besides a few mechanical things with my brothers 4 wheeler, the trip was an overall blast. Here's a few pictures.

its no glamis, but the dunes are really a lot bigger than they seem in the pictures

there were a lot of wide open places where you could drag race on the south side

sunset from the top of a small dune. and we stayed at the trails inn. it was alright because we stayed in the new section and theres direct access to the dunes.

heres a shot of some other groups. the snow actually helped, seeing as we didnt have paddles. the sand was damp enough so that we didnt have any traction problems.

that was a great trip and it makes me wish we had dunes worth going to that were closer. i think we'll be trying silver lake sometime in the future because its only like 7 or 8 hours. little sahara just has so much variety in terrain. i think we're dune addicts now..:p

We made our first trip last year. Little sahara is really nice. I hope to start making it an anual trip.

i think the tallest dunes are about 80 feet. not huge compared to glamis and all the other western sand dunes, but enough to keep you happy for a while. and as far as the amount of people, the weather conditions werent exactly ideal since we went in december lol. there were actually quite a few more than i expected on new years even though. im just glad it wasnt packed. im guessing that place could get pretty dangerous.

Just don't go down on Labor Day or Memorial Day weekends. It's crazy, lol.

The area isn't huge. It's only about what 2 square miles? But it is a great area, and the local town does a great job of supporting the riding area. It's a major part of the towns income.

Wynoka, OK. Go to google maps, and head south from the town. You'll see the area on the satelite map.

It's bigger than it looks on the map.

We usually go down there 2-3 times a year.

heres a little video i made. theres some short video clips taken with our crappy camera, so the color is basically non-existant. it was also my first time using windows movie maker and i did it pretty quickly.. so dont make fun of it too much. :)

for the first few days it was not a problem at all since it snowed and the sand was a little wet. on the last day it started to dry out and it was much harder to get around. id recommend paddles for the time of year you'll be going, unless you want massive roost shots ;)

I have been there when the sand is dry. It's still fun without paddles but I would recomend them. You can rent them at LS powersports. I think it's $50 for the day.

Late sept-early nov and late feb-early may are prime time for LS. Not to hot duringthe day, not too cold at night. I spend many of weekends there. I prefer to stay away during summer because of the riduclous heat, especially if there is no wind.
