well i bought some rear tires and one is not holding air. its the bead what are my options

1 slime or fix-a-flat? one better than the other?

thats what im hoping to do...

but has anyone heard of putting tubes in these tires?

what do you guys think?

if it is the bead then i would take the tire back off, make sure the rim and tire bead are free of any trash and put it back on. If it still leaks then a tube would be fine. Fix a flat or slim probably wouldnt fix that type of leak.

well after i bought the set the guy said that the tire iron sliped and took some rubber off the bead but we settled everything but now i need to do something about it... soo i think im going to get a tube put in... i dont really want to buy anouther tire.. would it be ok if i put a tube in that tire but now the other one?

I dont see where it would hurt. I have a set of flat track tires with only one tubed tire up front. If it is a slow leak, you could also try to put some silicone on the bead before its reseated.

yea i think it will work with the tube.. can the local tire shop accomplish this?

as for the slime vs fix a flat. the slime is way better. I put two cans of fix a flat in a rear tire once and didnt work, one can of slime sealed it right up. but as was said before, I dont think this will work on a bad bead or not. more for slow leaks

yea i see what you mean.. i did a search on here about the slime and i read that it will throw off the balance of everything.. and i know the local tire shops around here will not touch a tire that has slime in it..

be careful using a tube in a rear tire because the rim could slip and it could rip out the valve-stem from the tube.
just keep a good amount of air in the tube

Just yesterday I noticed one of my rear paddle tires had a slow leak around the bead. I tried to over inflate it and that didn't help. I took it to a local tire shop and he took the tire off and inspected it while I was watching and didn't find any sand or tire damage so I asked him to put some BEAD SEALER on the tire and reinstall it. It's been over 24 hours now and it hasn't leaked a bit. Best of all the guy didn't charge me a thing.

i no like to put any sort of sealer in a tire thats run on a performance based quad. :eek2: let alone a tube. what i would do is have the bead sealed and re-inflated. black hi-temp works well. if the bead is damaged really bad you could apply petroleum jelly to the tire bead and then apply wind sheild sealant to the wheel.

i have used tire slim for a few years now and it has worked on anything from leaks that i couldn't find to large nail holes and even tears from barbed wire! i haven't had a problum with slim ever. i work in a auto shop and have used slim on customer cars and my own and they balance out fine.

lol no if it can't be fixed with a rag plug then i will tell them about it and if they want i put slim in there for them but not as much as the bottle tells you to. i work in my family shop. i have also used slim in bobcat tires. i had a guy come in one day and he had 14 nails in his bobcat tire and he was getting nails in his tires almost 2 times a week so i put some slime in his tire and he told me he hasn't gotten a flat sense

well i understand.. i jsut know that some shops around here will screw you like that, they will put the stuff and tell you that they put a plug then when you go to get a new tire the next guy wont touch it because it has slime in it.

yeah i hear ya but we don't do that b/c a patch is cheaper then slime and almost easyer anyway

the customer is always going to pay for it anyways

Putting grease around the bead will help a damaged bead or rusted/damaged wheel hold air. This is a trick I have used many times.

I put slime in my rear tire on my 400EX and it threw the balance way off. And i caused the tire to ballon out at high speeds. Ill never use it again on a quad.

i don't use as much as the bottle says to but i wouldn't think it would do anything to the rear tire as far as balence. at what speed are we talking?

i can see how it would throw it off that stuff is heavy and if it all goes to the same place its going to throw it off bad

If the bead is off, take the core out, and fill it with 50 lbs of air. Both beads will pop within 55. But make sure to let some out before you ride!!!!!

Mine threw it off from 3rd gear and up. The stuff never gets hard the slime is always rolling around in the tire looking for another leak. Then when u get up to a high speed the slime is forst to the outside of the tire causing it to ballon the tire out. U have to run very low pressure in the tire so that dont happen. And it not always a good idea to run low pressure unless u are in sand or a soft area.

i have never had that happen. when i put it in my tires it didn't change anything from wht i can tell and i have had my ex up to 75 on the road and i didn't have any ballooning. maybe it the tipe of tire you have. when i was useing slime i had turf tamers.
