With no snow and up until saturday, no real wet weather, the boys got some winter riding in.

Cody was having fun riding with his little brother:p

He was feeling pretty good and we hit a local race on sunday. He had to run C class.

the fun ended near the end of the first lap when he lost his chain and had to deal with that every lap

It was a brutal race , and having to deal with putting on the chain everytime it came off (never in a nice dry spot or on flat ground..LOL) wasnt what he had planned. It was great for us in the end however as we learned some things about the new quad

He never gave up, even after a goggle change when I told him it was fine due to the chain:p

Now we will tear down the quad and build it. He cant wait to get it a bit wider and with some real suspension under him

papps one quick question, what shutter speed do you usually stay around to make it look like the quad is moving and its not "frozen" thanks
tom..

also, the pics look great! tell everyone i said hello and happy new year.

thomas...i am pretty sure everything in here was shot between 2.8 (as this picture shows such a shallow depth of field, my focus point was the Yamaha sticker) and f4 -5.6 (it was to dark out to shoot any higher

shutter speeds for all of these were 1/250th except this shot below which was 180th i think

thanks alot papps. makes sense. so even if im shooting bmx, to make it looks like theres some movement, i should keep it above like 1/125 and below 1/250 correct? also, when you want to freeze the action, what shutter speed do you usually want to stay above and under? thanks. I know it all has to do what your aperature is set to and iso. but im just saying like whats a good speed to freeze the action?

thanks pappy.

it depends on the above and the subject speed and distance from the camera

get it right and when the rider grabs his rear brakes , they will appear frozen while the front tires spin:D

I get paid:p but I love it so much that i dont think of it as a job.....more of a challenge to out do myself each time i shoot

i do fuss at CJ all the time about goggles, but dont let the pics fool you. many times he will be at the end of a practice session and pull over to chat where i have my camera set up. he ditches the goggles and sometimes gloves while he is getting a drink and when he does a few things for me and the camera he sometimes doesnt put them back on. at races, he does his best to keep the goggles on or pit for clean ones but many racers end up finishing without them...how i have no idea.

Paps i got a question what happens if the shutter speed is way to fast?

Pappy
01-01-2008, 01:28 PM
if its to fast for the available light the shot will be way dark or even black

photography is usually about balance, and seeing the light long before "the shot" presents itself. i know alot of folks that have great timing, a good eye and no skills with the camera. the cameras are getting better but you dont run out and buy $10k in snap on tools and instantly your a master mechanic...it takes learning and expierence. Thank god with todays digital no prints are involved so the learning curve is much much cheaper!
