Side shot of Current Progress. The Frame has been fully Gusseted and Powdercoated by Pappy at BK Performance. Silver was chosen to keep a Factory look. BK Performance provided all the coatings for the build.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 01:28 PM
ZBROZ Racing/ARS-FX chassis components will be used for the build. I wanted to have the best XC suspension setup available. I went with the 05 a-arms so I could make the switch to 05 spindles and hubs for better handling.

That motor is gonna look sick in that frame!

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 01:32 PM
To complete the Rear end, a RPM Dominator XC axle with Race Hub and RPM Anti-Fade will be used with a stock axle carrier.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 01:33 PM
RPM Anti-Fade with Streamline Blade Rotor

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 01:36 PM
Streamline Brake lines, Blade Rotors, and Clutch and Throttle Cables are being used on the build.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 01:41 PM
To keep me going straight and reduce the impacts I receive, a Precision Racing Products Steering Stabilizer will be used.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 01:50 PM
To further reduce impacts and help with arm pump, Fasst Company's Flexx handlebars are being used. After using these the past few seasons I would not want to ride without them.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 01:55 PM
Allowing me to be comfortable while holding on to the Flexx bars will be Spider Grips SLT grips.

Ty's400
12-31-2007, 01:58 PM
 Pretty cool...I guess

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:00 PM
To protect my hands and help keep mud and other objects away, I am using PowerMadd's Handguards with mounts and Wraps.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:05 PM
To make them stand out, the shifter, brake pedal, and kicker were polished, among other various parts. Working in a machine shop has its perks! :D

12-31-2007, 02:07 PM
wow I cant wait to see this when its complete! Looks like a awesome build wish I had the cash to do something like this!

j_cyrus3
12-31-2007, 02:08 PM
This is gonna be a nice quad I can done tell :D Gotta post a ride report when ya get it done Dave, I haven't heard much about the ars-fx shocks yet.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:10 PM
For wheels I went with Hipers! You won't find a better wheel for XC Racing. They will be mated with Maxxis Razr 2 fronts and Razr 6 ply rears.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:12 PM
An IMS Drybreak tank is getting used for the build to allow for easy re-fueling.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:19 PM
Next up comes some stuff for the motor. I will be using Rekluse's Z-Start Pro, Clutch Basket, and Cover. I have never used one before, but have only heard great things and I can't wait to ride with it!

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:28 PM
Allowing the motor to breathe will be HMF's Sport Series exhaust. I have used HMF for three years in a row. The exhaust are great and they support GNCC racing!

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:30 PM
To keep the motor cool, a PWR Radiator is being used.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:33 PM
A cool and inexpensive product I found that will add something different to the build are MX Bonz's colored Carb hoses. They were only $15 shipped if you order online.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:39 PM
After using Pappy's Molycoat work last year, I went with a lot of that again. The finish is nice, but the way it works is awesome. Helps eliminate rust and dissipates heat.

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 02:43 PM
Well that is it for now. I'm still waiting on a lot of parts to show up and need my motor to do much more. I'll be posting updates and several more pictures along the way!

Wow! This build is amazing. I wish I has the time and money to do a build from the frame up this winter. Too bad I ran out of both of those :( .

12-31-2007, 05:49 PM
You and POPO are gonna be on the same level now ... LOL

Ver nice So far... Hope you dont get it dirty ... :D

Dave400ex
12-31-2007, 07:04 PM
Hondarider101 the way we did it most couldn't do it that way on their own. They were belted with a fine grit belt with grease to help soften the lines, then hit on a Sisal polishing wheel with compound, and then hit on a Buff wheel with a different compound. When you have the right tools, it's easy.

300ex_#387 I really appreciate it! Your build is just as awesome. That has turned out great!

Tyler I am ahead of Popo, it's a Honda! LOL. I also appreciate your help and advice this year. More then a few of those parts are bcs of you (So they better be good)! All in all it should be a much better setup then I had. As far as cleaning it... that's gonna take a while!

01-01-2008, 03:17 PM
holy **** dave! you must have some $$$ be
cause i couldnt even build a quad like this that was cheaper....

Dave400ex
01-01-2008, 07:14 PM
Well none of this would be possible without the great help from all the companies listed. Without them hooking me up, the whole build would be a no go. It should turn out to be a great display quad for Indy.

woodsracer144
01-01-2008, 07:16 PM
what are they selling everything half priced? im not bein mean i know how much all this SC stuff is being i work on a XC team but this ride is gonna be pimped but with all the GOOD stuff you got doin on here its gonna be 20K in no time...

Dave400ex
01-01-2008, 07:25 PM
I can't say, but without those 21 companies it wouldn't be possible.

woodsracer144
01-01-2008, 07:31 PM
oh dave thats buggin me now... its like when some one say something then wont tell you... i'll have to look at some quads or something to get it off my mine

QuadJunkies I can't wait to ride the ARS-FX. And get to making that 450 over, I see the mini is getting the treatment.

FoxHondaRider lottery isn't needed. I've been saving for this since the end of summer. I see quads just as nice or nicer on here all the time, you just don't see a picture of every part used which makes it look even better...

Woodsracer144 I agree. Depends on who and how it's built.

Josh, you'll never catch me on the KingQuad :eek2: ;)

If the parts i steered your toward arent any good .... I WILL BUY THEM BACK FROM YOU .... :macho :macho

You better not ride that thing till you get to florida, then take the pics down there, for some reason Florida has the best Pictures to be taken, i really like the sand, and it just reminds me of a Golf Course setting in florida so it all looks good down there ... Thats where my 08 will be getting its Photo OPT .... :D :D

And you better not be the one that STOLE My PISTON from TOBY ....

Dave400ex
01-02-2008, 02:25 PM
I don't know if I'll be going to Florida, Georgia might be my first race and then all the rest. I can't afford to stay down there the week between bcs of school, and I know my dad won't drive that far two weekends in a row. lol. You got any room for Florida? :D

As far as the piston goes, I have no idea. Did it happen to get put in mine? :eek2:

Well it def. looks like it is going to be nice. Any way I can get my bike into this show??!?! Also, how do you go about getting good sponsers cause i'm having a hell of a time and had to do my entire rebuild outta my own pocket.....places around here are cheap. But like i said, it sounds like it is going to look sick. Good luck with the build.

KILLAQuad
01-02-2008, 03:08 PM
You Gotta HUSTLE !!!!!!!

You have to get your name out there and keep Sponsors with your name on their tounge ... Nothing is FREE or atleast VERY little to a point it doesnt make a difference, but you can get GREAT Prices on stuff ....

But you just have to get your resumes to places and PROVE that you will be a great Representative of that company and their product .... But i think the 2008 Sponsorship season is OVER so just get a resume and stuff together by September 2008 and send them out ... ;)

firefighterjosh
01-02-2008, 05:15 PM
If you take your time, write a great resume, send it to every company you can, you will get some great sponsors.

Also you have to give it time. Become a sponsored rider with them for a few years and if you prove to them you are a good rep they start to give ya some good discounts.

I can't wait to see your quad dave, good luck with it and don't scratch it!:macho

i dont think that some factorys care about representative matters... Rob Zimmerman its a good rider but last year at the oma nationals in Millville MN when he got beat and got 3rd and he just make a ton of reasons that he got beat he never said that he had a bad day and didnt have the luck that day but he'll be tryin to come back the next race...

and last year when ryan villlopoto and Jason Lawerance(SP) got it a fight... they both pretty much got a slap on the hand but jason got a fine out of it and he should of got DQ from a few races...

Factories care about winning and being respectful.....Bussiness's care about getting there product out to others to see;)

Everyone knows what a YFZ450 is, but not everyone knows they can win. So factory Yamaha will hire the best to ride there quad so others know its a winning machine.

A bussiness like for example Power madd. Power madd will give anyone a good discount if they show they will promote there product.

Like said above, just make a good resume and you will be suprised at what you can achieve.

Sorry for the hijack

That quad is going to be really nice once its done. One question I have though is why you went with a HMF exhaust? I love hmf pipes and i have one on my 450 but I never see people with them anymore and i wandered what made you use one.

Ty's400
01-27-2008, 08:17 PM
HMF makes a good pipe and they are extremely popular in the cross country scene. If you go to a GNCC you will see them everywhere!

Dave400ex
01-27-2008, 08:30 PM
RoadRidin450r, Thanks. HMF was an easy choice. This will be the 4th season in a row I've used HMF. I just like the pipe and the company. And as Ty said, they support GNCC racing, so like Pappy's quote, "Support those that Support You"

01-27-2008, 08:52 PM
Alright thats cool. Yea mostly around motocross I dont see many HMF pipes but they are still my favorite so I use them.

This build is going to the dealer show at Indy, I might be wrong but I imagine this build didn't cost that much.

I am just saying that in marketing opportunities like Indy, often companies will donate parts for the exposure. I imagine that is the case, but i could be wrong...

I can answer this for the both of you...Dave has received some great deals on certain products and he has also shelled out a lot of cash to have the best:eek2:

...so to heck with the costs, let's focus on the sweetness of his build:D

He's gonna have a very nice quad sitting on the starting line, thats for sure.

I might be at Indy with Rob, not sure yet. If I do go, I can't wait to see this quad in person.

Even with companies supporting the build, Dave has a ton of cash, sweat and tears in this thing. He isnt a pro, he is just your average Joe...however.....

He has a history of being honest, dedicated and driven to help grow this sport and IMO deserves the support and recognition he is getting.

alright i know this is off topic, but pappy send a few of those people my way, D23 is soo messed up none of my firends are racing the quads, then never had hte quad riders come up at the thing i cant think of the name, and it was all focused on the bikes, and my buddy took quad rep for this year and he tried gettin a little pay goin because the pro riders are sittin with the 12 K fully race quads and they get nothing for doing what they are doing, and the all say its for fun but i can have fun ridein around my own 40 acers with my 1969 honda US 90 i just picked up. its just my 2 cents, and i just whis there were more people that would try to move things foward around me, it seems its me and by buddy are the only one that think.

looks real good dave. glad the hub ordeal got worked out. after the show......you better hit a mudhole in 3rd gear pinned to relieve all the stress you were prolly under building it. But you did a great job and hope the show goes great. next year we can just do mine up for the show. its already halfway there. by the way you got a PM.

Dave400ex
02-10-2008, 05:55 PM
Again thanks everyone. I put a few more finishing touches on today and now I'm real close to being done. All I have to do is switch out the front hubs and get a Hood.

I got my Powermadds on, adjusted and tightened all controls, went over the rear end to tighten everything, put the Hiper mud plugs in, got both ARS-FX linkage and Swingarm skids on which fit perfect, put my UNI filter in, and finished it off with the EHS Racing airbox lid. One thing about the ARS-FX rear end I noticed is that it is a good 5-10 pounds heavier then stock with both skidplates on. I could feel a difference in not only the swingarm, but the swingarm skid really adds some weight. However, everything is beefy, which is great!

The UNI filter is great! I have been using them for 4 years now and won't buy anything else.

Dave400ex
02-10-2008, 05:59 PM
To finish off the airbox, a EHS Racing airbox lid will be used. These lids work great. This will be my third season using one and I love it. It does its job and keeps the mud and water out. Thanks to Eric at EHS Racing.

Dave400ex

I'm happy with everything. I only have two complaints/things I would change. One the a-arm bushings don't last long, they need to do a needle bearing setup like Houser, and two the swingarm needs to loose some weight. Nothing major, but would be good changes.

weight-yes.
Bushings-never had that problem on Troys- I guess we was lucky!
Maybe let them know so they can make inprovements in the future.

I know they said when it comes to shaving weight they said that it takes from strength in many instances and they would rathter have the added weight especially for the longer races .

i think every one has had those days... a buddy of mine had to have his 400ex pop started, then he was like starting with the c class by the time it started and then he had to catch up to the other riders... and a few races befor that a guy cut him off or something and then he was upside down in a pond...

i havent heard much on the ARS FX shocks... how long have they been out? i seen they just released a new one...

or mabie them are it.

Dave400ex
08-15-2008, 03:19 PM
The weight issue would need a new swingarm design which I doubt they want to do. The Laeger swingarm that uses the same linkage is much lighter.

The bushings wear out quick riding in the woods. I know several people have told me they talked to Nate about it. Needle bearings would be awesome!

Ricks if your talking about the creek right after we took off for the start I actually don't remember. I got stuck on that one hill and everyone got around I think.

Shocks have been out quite a while now. They are working on mini shocks, that might be what you saw.

But the Laeger swinger is even weaker than the ARS-fx ... There is just no winning in this stuff .... :grr:

Well look at it this way .... They dont like making that swinger that is why it is soooooo darn expensive then you still have to go through ARS-fx to get the link, they have even been caught saying that their swinger lacks strength in areas and it is due to the lack of gusseting like what the ARS-fx has and causes it to be sooo heavy, and how much abuse has Shaff really put it through ... ??? ... Put it on Parkers quad and see how long it lasts .... :macho

After talking with Nate today I'm not worried about the swingarm, I'll be able to use the stocker next year. Save weight and money, yet still get about equal performance. Sounds like a winner! Plus have an identical front end setup. And plastic will help too... ;)

Sounds good. ARS-FX is what I want. I already have a good deal so I'm in for that! Nate is ready to get me parts for the dealer show build. :D

And I expect to see some pics next week Tyler. I'm sure it will be awesome, but either way just run it!

They are the old Dana Creech bend. They come black now and you can even get black cross bars.

Tyler we are thinking about going to the Badlands next weekend. If you had it by then you could come and give it a run down. ;) And I could see it :D

The next build is well on its way and parts are coming in. I'll be doing another build thread after I get everything to put it together and can make progress. Should be another good one!
